Beer is one of the most beloved liquors of the world. For the last several years, South Korea has seen an increasing number of craft beers with witty brand names. Seeing the fast spreading trend, locals are introducing their own craft beer brands one by one with unique names that represent the characteristics of the local. According to a report, South Korea has seen a surprising 40% growth in the craft beer market and it seems to be common nowadays rather than a trend.

Junki Moon, CEO of Daegyeong Beer, has 30 years of experience in making beer. He majored in agricultural chemistry at Korea University and worked for a major company after graduation. When the Liquor Tax Law in South Korea was revised in 2014, he quit the company and travel down home to Daegu Metropolitan City to make craft beer. Moon, who is second to none when it comes to beer, says:

“The biggest charm of handmade beer is unique smell and taste. This makes it difficult for mass produce and nationwide distribution but that’s what makes it unique.”

The flagship brand of Daegyeong Beer is ‘Daegu Local Craft Beer’. Moon explains that Daegu Local Craft Beer goes through 3 months of natural fermentation and made with top quality malt, hop and beer yeast. For this reason, he emphasizes, the unique flavor and freshness are captivating the hearts of drinkers.

Moon does not add Co2 artificially so that the beer can keep its freshness for a long time. The freshness of Daegu Local Craft Beer is also secured by its cold chain delivery system thanks to which beer drinkers enjoy the freshest taste all the time.

The beer currently is sold at the first floor of the home ground of Samsung Lions and is one of the most beloved beers by the audience especially the locals. Moon has this sense of duty as a professional beer maker and lover that kinds of beer should be diversified in South Korea and it is his goal to introduce seasonal craft beers so that people can enjoy a variety of choice as season by season as local by local.
