‘Career’ is a general term for overall experiences related to work in one’s whole life, career surviving strategy in the age of homo-hundred
“Career consulting based on whole life plan for people to find work themselves and manage career with responsibility by enhanced ‘Employability’ which is more important than ‘Stability’ of the job.”
Eunmee Hwang, President of Career Consultant Forum (CCF) / Former President of Korea Federation of Business & Professional Women (BPW Korea)

It is an important surviving strategy for us to find and pursue the work we love and are good at
with our strengths, the core of employability, rather than pursue those disappearing jobs in this age of 4th Industrial Revolution.
It is the age that we need to change our conception about job. We have to think about ‘work’ instead of ‘job’ when looking for a job.  In other words, we need to ‘create our own work’ instead of ‘finding a job’.
President Eunmee Hwang of the Career Consultant Forum is a career strategist who has predicted a 10 to 15 year future ahead and put the prediction into practice. She has given a considerable amount of efforts and advices for middle and high school students to value ‘career guidance’ instead of ‘learning guidance’, for university students to value ‘the importance of systematic career guidance before employment’ as well as the importance of internship instead of ‘employment-centered career guidance’. For this, she has planned professional programs and their implementation. Before the IMF crisis in 1997, Hwang developed and implemented outplacement programs of financial institution for women on career breaks. Since the establishment of the Career Consultant Forum, she built up the vision ‘Supporting individual persons to lead a happy life through career consulting makes a contribution to the society and the nation’ and has fostered specialists who provide career consulting focused on the vision based on the ‘whole life plan’. The consulting areas of career consultants are 1) career guidance and in-between-jobs for youth and university students 2) career development & management and retirement plan for employees 3) the 2nd/the 3rd happy life plan and outplacement support for retirees. Also, career consultants develop and implement consulting and training programs for both individuals and groups.

Job market shifts to work from job, promote your strength
Hwang advises as follows: The rapid progress of information and communication technologies is already changing the job market. The AI doctor Watson and the AI lawyer Ross are expanding their scope of business. The HR of companies will change to the strategy that minimizes full time employees and hire people who have the core abilities for the job which company is seeking from the job market on a short term basis.
Many employees might have to build their career as part time, contracted or one off due to the lack of stable jobs in the global market. So we must equip ourselves with capabilities and do marketing our strengths to carry out high value added works which the AI cannot do through continuous career development and lifelong learning. A single job will make it hard for us to survive in this age of homo-hundred except the jobs that the AI cannot do so we must think about multiple career and connect it to the life time goals and values and keep carrying on career development and management in order to lead a happy life. The advancement of information technology will bring us more time so that we can plan our work and life harmoniously, productively and meaningfully. Therefore, we are advised to avoid setting a goal to find a job at a company we prefer but to see whether the company recognizes our core abilities, use them and grow together. If we cherish our intrinsic value, instead of external standard or value, and our internal growth and subjective success instead of the position and salary, we do not need to compare ourselves with others to lead a happy life.

Aiming at ‘whole life plan-centered’ career consulting that embraces all generations and ages
Currently, 60 company HR, mentors, counselors, coaches, management consultants and professors are working for the Career Consultant Forum. The founder Eumee Hwang aims at the development of Korean-way career consulting programs customized to the 4th Industrial Revolution and spreading the programs to both domestic and overseas markets.
The Career Consultant Forum was established in 2009 and was registered in May 2012 to the Ministry of Employment and Labor as a non-profit corporate body.  In June 2012, CCF became an International Affiliate of the National Career Development Association in the U. S. that boasts the first and the longest 104 years of history. The members of CCF build a variety of up-to-date information, knowledge, skills and experiences, and strengthen their capabilities alongside sustainable growth through regular seminars themed on companies and organizations, understanding of human, career development and consulting theory. CCF brings up career development policy suggestions to the government, company tour, and  carries out work experience and social contribution by using their professions. Major activities of CCF are: developing examplary career programs which are necessary in society but not yet known the importance of the programs to people; developed and organized career consulting programs for retired athletics; seminar on overseas MBA; lectures on ‘career at the international organizations’; outplacement programs for people with industrial accidents; career camps for free semester-based middle school students on islands; free semester instructor’s courses;  forecast  the ‘Promising Jobs after 10 Years’  requested by the media;  lectures/customized programs requested by Korea Job World and other organizations; recommends specialists to the government and companies; co-held The 1st Asia-Pacific Career Development Association (APCDA) Conference with the APCDA in Seoul in 2013.  It is notable that Dr. Richard Bolles, the most recognized career expert in the world, was invited for lecture and CCF supported him to publish his book, ‘Parachute’ in Korea; Six CCF members participated in 2014 HRD Conference as panels; debriefing on the important elements of international conferences for members; peer training programs between members.

Fostering career consultants customized in the age of the 4th Industrial Revolution and AI
While serving as the 22nd president of the Korea Federation of Business & Professional Women (BPW Korea), Hwang introduced ‘Equal Pay Day’, which was a global campaign by the BPW International which has about 100 member countries in the world, to Korea for the first time. She has paid a great effort in fostering talented individuals and improving the status of women. She also has been carrying out education for mother through EM consulting, her private career consulting firm which she established in 1995, since 2015 so that mothers can lead self-directed life and live happy life with her family without too much intervention to their children’s education.
Hwang wished to be a conductor when she was a child. When in high school, her music teacher encouraged her to study vocal music. She played the musical ‘Godspell’ as an actor when in university and was recommended by a broadcasting PD to be a singer. But she predicted a harsh life of a singer and worked for Bank of America as Executive Secretary, HR specialist, and Global marketer.  She worked in the Secretariat to the president of IBRD when the IMF/IBRD General Meeting was held in Seoul in 1985. From 1993, she served for the BPW Korea and BPW International, the first grade and advisory organization of the UN Economic and Social Council.
Hwang said “Career consultants suggest optimum solutions to clients through analysis on their goals, abilities and personality so that they can choose the best.  ‘‘It is calling from God for me to foster professional career consultants through the Career Consultant Forum so that  they can support  people for the success of  their career and happy life.” Hwang added that it was urgent to foster career consultants who have deep understanding about the change of the future. For this, she also is planning to turn normal workers, who have interest in the field, as career consultants.
Last May, Hwang was chosen as the 16th winner of <Ryu Gwan Sun Award>hosted by the  Chungnam Provincial Government, Ewha Girls’ High School, and Donga Ilbo for her activity as a career specialist to improve the level of employment service, activity on fostering global talents and activity on improving the status of women. Hwang is scheduled to participate in the BPW International Congress as a panel late October this year and to give a presentation under the theme ‘Career Plan in the age of 4th Industrial Revolution’. The future activities of the Career Consultant Forum are highly expected.
