The food franchises paying attention to ‘honbabjok’ – singles - is because not only they are emerging with new consumer power: they tend to buy things at the closest vicinity possible and are generous to open their purse. They like simple food at convenience stores but spend sumptuously every now and then. Reading the tendency, Chefpig CEO Song Myeong-jin has brought up innovative menus and is growing the business rapidly in the dine-out industry. 

Pork belly, alongside raw fish and family restaurants, probably has been most uninviting for many singles. But Chefpig is blowing an inviting breeze for them by introducing pork belly menus for singles. It is great advantage that you can enjoy smooth, juicy and just grilled fresh pork belly at Chefpig. 

“I worked in Chinese and Korean kitchens as a chef for a long time. The 30 minute delivery system with freshness intact is the result of my experience and knowhow accumulated during these periods. Our pork belly menus are not just designed to answer to the demand of singles but to offer the freshest food possible” says CEO Song Myeong-jin of Chefpig. 

Song called the specially made recipe of Chefpig as ‘fire controlling recipe’: grilling the surface of the belly in strong fire swiftly to prevent the juice from dripping down. The difference Chefpig makes at the grilling procedure is at dexterity in the temperature, timing of upside down and severing method. 

“Having secured the taste, I thought it was most important to realize the consistent taste in all branch restaurants. In order to achieve this, I spent more than 6 months in development of menus and recipes.”

Pork belly at Chefpig is grilled at 300¡É to give unique taste and currently there are 5 menus to choose from: original, fiery pork belly, fiery small octopus pork belly, ripened kimchi pork belly and garlic pork belly. The original can be ordered half belly and half neck while the newly introduced garlic pork belly comes with garlic flakes and specially made teriyaki garlic sauce. The side dishes are also worth enjoying as they are thoroughly prepared with hands which will be good accompaniments. To name a few, they are raw pork kimchi stew, spicy marinated crab, garlic leaves, seasoned lotus root, sweet potato salad, salted spicy squid and pickled vegetables. 

Growing the business as a strong food franchise

The pride in taste, price and services of Chefpig plays the driving force for rapid growth and sales increase. CEO Song is running 6 branch restaurants in the capital area since the flagship store opened in Siheung City January this year and 2 more branches are soon to open. It is encouraging that they have already marked the top sales figures in many delivery apps in Korea alongside being appointed as excellent restaurants at the same time. 

“Pork belly delivery service has just started and we are expected to see a steady increase in sales as the item itself is widely consumed by many Korean people.”

Recently, Chefpig has signed a business agreement with CJ Freshway to secure the supply of the freshest ingredients at competitive price and CEO Song emphasizes that you can run a branch with small capital and at a reduced rent and labor cost in a way to maximize the profit. 

“We plan to complete the first phase of opening new branches by the end of the year and start anew from next year. If you are thinking of running a store in partnership, you had better advised to give a research on item, location and prospect. Meanwhile, I hope that the government will provide substantial support for many startups.” 

It seems that Chefpig will certainly blow a gaming changing breeze to the dine-out industry in Korea.
