Director Baek Tae-san of BAEKSCO
Coding fosters talented future manpower

Coding training is not a choice but a must
Coding training aims at developing ‘computational thinking’ needed in the digital age. The training, however, is not about fostering programmers but improving the basic skills needed to survive in the future society. One of the rising institutes which effectively teaches Coding is BAEKSCO.

Director Baek Tae-san of BAEKSCO obtained a master’s degree and a PhD in artificial intelligence and software engineering and has provided lectures at universities and organizations during which he saw the ever increasing importance of coding training.

“C, C++ and JAVA are some of the languages used for coding and they change according to the operational environments of software. So one must be careful that putting gravity on coding languages only reduces learning efficiency and discourages motivation of learners” says Baek.

Therefore, Baek gives more focus on EPL (Educational Program Language) as the very basic to know about the principle of coding.

Arousing learner’s interest in coding
The curriculum of BAEKSCO is systematically covers from elementary, middle and high school courses to adults.

“If Excel, PowerPoint and CAD focus on ‘something’, coding focuses on ‘how’. For this reason, mathematical knowledge, thinking ability and creativity are very important elements to learn about coding.”

Coding ability is but a source to develop ‘thinking power’. And it is rising as an effective method to promote ‘problem solving skill’ and also regarded as a must needed element for children to survive in the coming age of the 4th Industrial Revolution which will take over many jobs formerly done by mankind.

“The goal of coding training is to maximize our thinking ability that cannot be achieved by rote learning but one’s application ability backed up by the basic knowledge. One’s future competitiveness, in a way, comes from this ability.”

Coding training is included in the text book from next year in Korea. And the world is already responding to coding training with much enthusiasm. The UK, for example, started coding training after school from 2012 and Finland, for another example, established a coding school ‘Koodikoulu’ for aged above 4.

<Power Korea> hopes that BAEKSCO will take a great part in spreading the importance of coding training in Korea.
