다가오는 4차 산업혁명은 우리에게 삶의 방식을 변화시킬 것을 요구하고 있다. 인공지능기술과 로봇기술이 발달하고 정보통신기술이 고도화됨에 따라 단순한 생산 활동과 지식의 축적은 더 이상의 의미를 잃어버리게 된 것이다. 실제로 최근 발표된 바에 따르면 경우에 따라 최대 164만 개의 일자리가 사라질 것으로 전망되고 있다. 이러한 가운데 조선대학교 산학협력단은 세계를 선도하는 첨단기술 연구와 이를 이끌어나갈 맞춤형 인재양성을 통해 다가오는 4차 산업혁명 시대를 성공적으로 맞이하고자 최선의 노력을 다하고 있다. 

지역발전을 선도하는 산학협력 거점대학
조선대학교는 1946년 설립된 이래 ‘생산교육’, ‘영재교육’, ‘개성교육’을 건학이념으로 삼아 교육·산업·경제·고용·문화·복지 등 전 분야에 걸친 발전을 선도하며, 지역 거점대학으로서의 역할을 다해왔다. 특히 대학의 교육이 지역산업의 발전으로 이어지는 ‘생산교육’의 가치에 주목한 조선대학교는 개교와 함께 산학협력 사업을 꾸준히 진행해 왔으며, 지난 2004년 4월에는 산학협력단을 설립하고 산·학·연·관의 협력체계 구축을 통한 보다 효율적인 산업발전 전략을 수립, 실천에 앞장서왔다. 
이에 조선대 산학협력단에서는 차세대 성장동력산업 및 지역 특화산업의 R&D 분야를 중점 육성하는 한편, 현장중심의 지역특화산업 전문인력 양성을 통해 지역이 배출한 인재가 지역사회 발전의 주역이 될 수 있도록 힘써왔다. 또한 창업 및 기술이전을 통한 가치창출, 대학이 지역 산업체 발전을 서포트할 수 있는 지원체계 구축, 투명한 경영 및 자립형 종합관리체계 구축 등 산학협력사업의 실용화와 지역경제의 활성화를 제고하기 위해 노력해왔다. 산학협력단을 이끌고 있는 이인화 단장은 “조선대학교는 7만 2천 지역민의 성원으로 설립된 이래 70년의 역사를 통하여 지역과 함께 성장해왔습니다. 또한 산학협력단 개설 이후 약 7,000억 원 이상의 대형 국책·연구사업을 유치하고, 1,000여개 가족 회사를 보유하는 등 산학협력 인프라 구축을 통해 지역 발전의 동력이 되고자 최선을 다해왔습니다”라고 말했다. 
조선대 산학협력단은 지난 2005년 6월 전국 종합대학 최초로 산업단지 내에 산학협력캠퍼스를 구축함으로써 교육이 산업현장 속으로 들어가는 산학협력 교육의 새로운 패러다임을 제시한 바 있으며, 전기자동차를 중심으로 한 ‘친환경자동차 분야’, 치매와 치과재료로 대표되는 ‘바이오메디컬 분야’, 높은 부가가치를 창출하는 문화산업과 정보통신기술을 접목시킨 ‘ICT 문화산업 분야’ 등 미래 먹거리 산업을 육성하기 위한 토대를 다져왔다.
현재 산학협력단은 그간의 성과를 바탕으로 4차 산업혁명을 주도하기 위한 인공지능과 빅데이터 기반의 새로운 산업패러다임 육성에 박차를 가하고 있다. 또한 최근 전국 최대 사업비의 ‘LINC+사업단’과 ‘SW중심대학’이 출범함에 따라 「UIC(University Industry Collaboration) QUEST 4.0」이라는 브랜드화 된 교육프로그램을 실시할 계획이다. 여기에는 쌍방향 산학협력을 통한 한층 고도화된 산학협력 모델과 ‘Track 제도’를 도입한 산업맞춤형 인재양성이 근간을 이룰 전망이다. 

“시대의 요구와 수요에 적극 부응하는 대학을 만들겠습니다”
이인화 단장은 4차 산업혁명이 가져올 변화를 적극적으로 수용하는 데 그치는 것이 아니라, 나아가 세계 첨단과학기술 시장을 리드하기 위해선 정부 및 기업의 노력과 함께, 대학의 교육 프로그램과 인재양성의 방법론도 새로운 패러다임을 모색해야 한다고 강조했다. 그는 “예를 들어 드론에 관련된 전문인력을 양성하기 위해 새로운 학과를 개설하는 것은 어려운 일입니다. 왜냐하면 관련된 학문분야도 많고, 응용되는 사업분야도 다양하기 때문입니다. 이러한 다양성고 전문성을 확보하고자 마련한 교육프로그램이 바로 ‘Track 제도’입니다. 학생은 자신의 소속 학과에 상관없이 본인이 개설된 모듈(관련 과목)을 찾아 수강하게 되고, 대학은 이를 전문가로 인증하고 산업체의 수용에 부응할 수 있게 됩니다”라고 설명했다. 
그가 강조하는 산학협력단의 또 다른 책무는 바로 대학에서 개발된 기술과 인재를 활용한 ‘창업(Start-Up)’의 활성화이다. 다가올 4차 산업혁명시대에 가장 중요한 일자리 창출 수단으로서 주목받고 있는 창업은 새로운 사회 요구에 적극적으로 부응할 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 창의적인 아이디어를 통해 새로운 수요를 창출하고, 경제를 활성화시키는 데 가장 효과적인 직업군이 될 수 있다는 판단에서다. 그는 “저희 조선대 산학협력단은 중소기업청으로부터 창업보육사업, 창업선도대학사업, 이노폴리스사업 등 굵직한 창업 관련 사업을 유치하여 미래의 산업혁신을 이끌어갈 창업 플랫폼을 구축했습니다. 완도에 위치한 완도해양캠퍼스와 광주 첨단과학산업단지에 위치한 첨단 캠퍼스를 활용하여 창업의 전진기지를 만들고, 이를 통하여 연간 100개 이상의 창업기획을 배출하는 계획을 추진하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다.
이제 대학은 단순히 지식을 가르치거나, 연구실의 연구결과를 논문으로 발표하는데 그쳐서는 생존할 수 없다. 지식을 만드는 인공지능을 개발하여야 하며, 연구결과를 토대로 새로운 가치를 만들고 이를 사회로 내보내는 것이 대학에 부여된 새로운 역할이라는 것이 이인화 단장의 생각이다. 그는 “이러한 변화는 이공계에만 국한된 것이 아닙니다. 인문학적인 사고를 기반으로 한 사회의 변화를 통찰(Insight)할 수 있는 능력은 이미 우리 시대 대학의 미래를 좌우하는 가장 중요한 덕목이 되고 있습니다”라고 역설했다. 변화의 시대는 언제나 위기와 기회를 동시에 불러온다. 이를 얼마나 슬기롭게 극복하고 활용하느냐는 전적으로 우리 자신의 역량과 노력에 달려있다. 우수한 연구성과의 사업화와 연구환경 조성, 체계적 연구행정 실현을 통해 대학 성장동력의 중추적 역할을 담당함과 동시에, 기업과 지역사회로부터 신뢰받는 동북아중심대학으로서의 비전을 꿈꾸는 조선대학교 산학협력단의 열정이 대한민국 발전의 새로운 기폭제가 되어주기를 기대한다.

A new paradigm for university and education in the age of 4th industrial revolution

The upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution requires us to change lifestyle. Advance in artificial intelligence, robot technology and information communications has caused simple activity of production and accumulation of knowledge to lose its traditional meaning. According to a recent report, up to 1.64 million jobs are expected to disappear sooner or later. Under these circumstances, Chosun Univ. industry-academy cooperation foundation is doing their best to see the upcoming 4th industrial revolution age successfully through the research of advanced technology and customized rearing of talents to lead this. 

Industry-academy cooperation hub university to lead local development 

Since the foundation in 1946, Chosun University has taken the lead in overall development, including education, industry, economy, employment, culture and welfare, under the principle of education for production, talents and individuality as a local hub university. Especially, taking note of ‘the education for production,’ Chosun University has proceeded with industry-academy cooperation since its foundation and established industry-Academy cooperation foundation in April, 2004, leading the strategy for more effective industrial development through building an industry-academy-research-office cooperation system.               
With this relation, the school’s Industry-Academy cooperation foundation has focally reared R&D’s for next-generation growth engine and locally specialized industries, while cultivating on-the-site  professional personnel for specialized industries so that locally produced talents may act a leading role in the development of community. The foundation has also made efforts to create value through start-up and technological transfer, build the support system for development of local companies, transparent management and independent integrated management system in an attempt to commercialize industry-academy cooperation and activate local economy. Lee In-hwa, head of the Foundation, said, “Chosun University established by the support of 72,000 residents has built up together with community through the history of 70 years. Since the opening of Industry-Academy Foundation, we have attracted large national research projects for over 700 billion won and affiliated 1,000 family companies. We have done our best to be a prime mover for local development through building the infrastructure of industry-academy cooperation. 
Chosun University Industry-Academy Cooperation Foundation installed its campus in an industrial complex in June 2005, as the first university in the nation, presenting a new paradigm of industry-academy cooperation education. It has laid the foundation for ‘eco-friendly automobile’ area on the axis of electric cars, ‘biomedical area’ represented by dementia and dental materials, and high added-value ‘ICT culture industry’ area which combines culture industry and information communications. 
Based on the past achievements, the Industry-Academy cooperation foundation is putting spurs on rearing a new industrial paradigm based on artificial intelligence and big data in order to be a leader in the 4th industrial revolution.  Besides, as LiNC+ Center boasting of the biggest working expenses in the nation and ‘SW hub university’ has started recently, Chosun University is planning to implement a branded education program called <UIC (University Industry Collaboration) Quest 4.0>. This is going to be propped up by enhanced industry-academy cooperation model through two-way cooperation and talent rearing tailored to industry with introduction of “Track system.” 

“Will make a university in response to the demands of the times.” 

Foundation head Lee In-hwa emphasized that we should not just receive a change brought by the 4th Industrial Revolution but, to be a leader in the global market for advanced science and technology, also seek for a new paradigm as to the university’s educational program and methodology for rearing able persons, along with the government and corporate endeavors. He explained, “For example, it is difficult to open a new department to cultivate professional personnel related to drone because it involves many related industrial areas and diverse industries in its application. ‘Track system’ is the education program prepared to secure such diversity and professionalism. Student can take classes by finding the module (related subject) opened by himself regardless of his affiliated department. And the university certifies the student as specialist and can respond to the demands from companies.” 
Another responsibility of the Industry-Academy Cooperation Foundation is to activate start-up using the technology and talents developed by the university. Start-up is drawing attention as the most important means of creating jobs in the 4th industrial revolution to come. It can respond to new social demands positively and besides, it can become the most effective job type to create new demands through creative ideas and boost economy. He clarified, “Our foundation attracted important startup-related projects including childcare, startup leader, Innopolis, etc. and built a startup platform to lead a future industrial innovation. We will build an advance base for startup using a marine campus located in Wando and high-tech campus located in Gwangju high-tech science industrial complex, and produce startup planning for over 100, annually. 
Now university cannot survive simply by teaching knowledge or publishing the result of research in thesis. We should develop artificial intelligence which makes knowledge, create a new value based on the result of study and send it out to the society. It is a new role offered to the university, according to head Lee In-hwa. He emphasized, “Such change is not restricted to science and engineering. Ability to penetrate into the social change, based on humanistic thinking, is becoming the most important virtue which will command the future of university in our times.”  
The age of change never fails to bring on both crisis and opportunity simultaneously. How we should overcome and utilize it wisely wholly depends on our own capability and efforts. Chosun University Industry-Academy cooperation foundation is devoted to the pivotal role in the growth engine of university through commercializing excellent research results, making the environment for research and realizing systematic research administration while dreaming for the vision as a central university in Northeast Asia trusted by companies and community. Its wonderful passion is likely to become a new detonator for the development of Korea.
