인간의 모든 행동과 사고를 관장하는 기관인 ‘뇌’. 뇌에 대한 연구가 시작된 지 수십 년이 지났지만 인류는 아직까지도 그 기능의 극히 일부만을 밝혀냈을 뿐이다. 뇌를 일컬어 ‘인류 최후의 미개척지’라 부르는 것도 그 때문이다. 뇌를 활용하는 능력을 개발하는 것이 인류를 한 단계 높은 차원으로 이끌리라는 전망이 지배적인 가운데 세계 최초로 전뇌학습법을 개발하고, 이를 통해 놀라운 성과를 창출해내고 있는 세계전뇌학습아카데미 김용진 박사의 행보가 주목받고 있다.

놀라운 학습능력 향상 효과, 초고속전뇌학습법
‘전뇌(全腦)’란 좌뇌·우뇌·간뇌로 분류되는 뇌의 전부를 일컫는 용어이다. 좌뇌는 주로 지능적인 면과 관련된 기능을 하며, 우뇌는 감각적이고 감성적인 면, 간뇌는 몸의 신진대사와 성장, 호르몬 등의 조절과 촉진 역할을 담당한다. 뇌 안에 있는 약 1,000억 개의 신경세포와 100조개 이상의 시냅스가 서로 수많은 신호를 주고받으며 인체의 생명 유지를 위한 활동은 물론 고도의 사고 작용까지도 도맡아하는 것이다. 그러나 정작 인간은 전뇌의 능력을 7~15% 정도밖에 사용하지 못한다. 천재로 불리는 아인슈타인이나 뉴턴, 에디슨도 뇌의 10~15% 밖에 사용하지 못했다는 것이 지금까지 밝혀진 사실이다. 그렇다면 인간이 뇌의 나머지 85~93%를 활용할 수 있게 된다면 어떨까? 이 물음에 대한 답을 제시하고 있는 이가 있다. 바로 세계전뇌학습아카데미 김용진 박사다.

김용진 박사는 지금 우리에게 너무나도 익숙한 용어인 ‘전뇌학습법’을 세계 최초로 개발하고 보급한 인물로 잘 알려져 있다. 1966년도 처음 아이디어를 얻어 연구와 보완을 거듭해 개발된 전뇌학습법은 총 3단계의 과정으로 이뤄져 있다. 1단계 초급과정은 초고속 정독 과정으로 집중력, 기억력, 사고력, 어휘력, 판단력, 논리력, 창의력, 순발력 등을 향상시키며, 독서능력을 10~100배 이상 끌어올린다. 2·3단계는 중·고급과정으로 학습 적용과 응용력을 기르는 단계이다. 초급과정에서 습득한 학습법을 교과 암기, 영어 단어 암기, 한자 암기, 요점정리, 이미지, 기억법 등에 적용시키며 효과적이고 체계적인 자기주도학습법을 터득할 수 있도록 돕는다. 총 60~80시간 안에 완성되는 이 초고속전뇌학습법은 학생들에게 학습에 대한 자신감을 길러줄 뿐 아니라, 창의력과 이해력, 기억력과 집중력도 향상시켜 준다. 김 박사는 “기존의 학습법들은 모두 ‘공부하는 자세’나 ‘마음가짐’ 같은 원론적인 이야기에 그치고 있습니다. 하지만 정작 학생들에게 가장 필요한 것은 효과적으로 공부할 수 있는 구체적인 방법입니다. 전뇌학습법은 마치 자동차를 운전하기 위해 면허를 따는 것처럼 공부를 위한 방법을 알려주는 것입니다. 전뇌학습을 하는 것은 ‘공부방법 면허증’을 발급받는 것과 같은거죠”라고 설명했다.

노벨상 100명의 꿈을 향해
초고속전뇌학습법의 효과는 이미 다양한 사례를 통해 증명되고 있다. 실제로 수많은 공인회계사, 사시 및 행시합격자를 배출해냈으며, 전교 1등이나 평균 40점 이상 향상된 사례가 꾸준히 축적되고 있기 때문이다. 최근에는 올해로 79세인 박종영씨가 이 학습법을 통해 서강대 심리학과에 입학했으며, 한 고려대 재학생은 4학기 All A+의 성적을 받아 지난 7월 학원에서 수여하는 장학금을 받기도 했다. 또한 김용진 박사는 장영실과학문화상 금상, 천재교육부문 성공대상, 글로벌 신지식인대상, 2016 대한민국 경영혁신대상 등을 수상했으며, ‘초고속전뇌학습법’이 세계대백과사전에 등재되는 쾌거를 거두기도 했다. 국내 주요 언론 및 매스컴은 물론이고 대외적으로도 널리 알려진 초고속전뇌학습법은 일본NHK, 후지, 중경TV, 아사이, 산께이, 요미우리, 중국CCTV, 인민일보 등을 통해 알려지기도 했고, 지난 80년 첫 출간된 그의 저서는 지금까지 60쇄를 찍으며 미국, 유럽, 일본, 중국 등에 300만부 이상이 판매되었다. 김 박사는 “전뇌학습법은 뇌의 미활성화 되어있던 부분을 직접 개발하는 것이기에 갈수록 그 효과가 커집니다. 특히 최근 중시되는 창의력을 향상시키는데 더없이 좋은 방법이라 할 수 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 

초고속전뇌학습법을 교육하기 위해 ‘브레인킹’을 설립한 김용진 박사는 학생들 뿐 아니라 바쁜 직장인, 지방 거주자를 위한 주말반도 운영하고 있으며, 교직원들의 직무연수교육과 영재지도교사 활동도 활발히 펼치고 있다. 이러한 강의에서 그가 가장 강조하는 것은 ‘자신감’이다. 그는 “강의를 시작하기 전에 항상 학생들에게 ‘나는 천재다’라는 사실을 알려줍니다. 약 400개의 난자와 9,000억 개의 정자 가운데 우리가 태어날 확률은 1,000억분의 1입니다. 엄청난 확률을 뚫고 태어난 만큼 누구나 천재가 될 수 있는 자질을 갖고 있습니다. 다만 그 능력을 충분히 개발하지 못했을 뿐이죠”라며, “자신이 무한한 가능성을 가지고 있다는 사실을 깨닫게 하는 것이 천재가 되는 첫 번째 단계입니다”라고 강조했다.

이와 더불어 김용진 박사는 녹색삶지식경제연구원과의 협약을 통해 ‘노벨상 100명 만들기’의 꿈을 실현시키기 위한 노력을 펼치고 있다. 녹색삶지식경제연구원은 前 과기부장관이자 4선 국회의원인 이상희 박사가 이사장을 맡고 있는 곳으로 매년 창의력이 우수한 학생을 선발해 ‘레오나드로다빈치 상’을 수여하고 있으며, 김용진 박사는 수상자 및 학부모를 대상으로 학습효율을 더욱 극대화할 수 있는 전뇌학습법에 대한 특강을 펼치고 있다. 그는 “가까운 일본과 중국에서도 노벨상 수상자가 탄생했지만, 우리나라는 아직까지 과학부분 노벨상 수상자를 배출하지 못했습니다. 이에 저는 초고속전뇌학습법의 보급을 통해 학생들의 학습효율을 획기적으로 향상시키는 한편, 이를 바탕으로 우리나라에서도 100명의 노벨상 수상자가 탄생할 수 있는 기반을 다지고자 합니다”라고 포부를 밝혔다. 이에 덧붙여 그는 “전뇌학습법은 학업을 준비하는 학생들 뿐 아니라 기억력 감퇴 및 치매로 고민하는 70~80대 노인층에게도 도움을 줄 수 있습니다. 저는 앞으로도 국민 모두에게 전뇌학습법을 알리고 보급하는데 힘써 건강하고 발전하는 사회, 강한 대한민국을 이룩하는데 보탬이 되고자 합니다”라고 밝혔다. 갈수록 고도화되는 지식사회 속에서 국가경쟁력을 가늠하는 가장 중요한 잣대는 우수한 인재를 확보하는 일이다. 세계로 나아갈 대한민국의 희망을 키워내고 있는 이들의 노력이 값진 열매로 보상받기를 기대한다.

Brain controls all our thoughts and actions. But we still do not know much about our brain despite years of research. Allbrain means literally the all parts of brain. Kim started the idea in 1966 and introduced a three stage allbrain learning method after years of research. The first stage is ‘reading carefully’ to improve a sense of concentration, memory, thinking, vocabulary, decision making, creativity and reaction. It increases reading ability up to 100 times. The second and the third stages are ‘adoption and application’. It helps the learner to apply the ability gained from the first stage to memorizing textbooks, English vocabulary, Chinese characters, summarization and image association. It increases self-learning ability. The allbrain learning method takes 60 to 80 hours to be completed and it gives students improved confidence, creativity, understandability, memory and focus. “Most existing learning methods are focusing on one’s learning attitude but what they actually need is an effective learning method. The allbrain learning method is like a man obtaining a driving license. It is a ‘learning method license’ instead I would like to say” explained Kim. 

Making 100 learners win the Nobel Prize
The effect of allbrain learning has been proved in various cases. The methods helped many learners pass civil service examinations and students to be the top in the school or increase average 40 points more. Recently, for example, Park Jong-young (79) made for Psychology Department of Sogang University and a Korean University student received All A+ of the all four semesters, which he also received a scholarship from Brain King last July. As to prove the effect of allbrain learning, Dr. Kim received a gold prize at The Jang Yeong-sil Science & Culture Awards, The Success Awards in the genius education category, The Create Intellectual Award and 2016 The Management Innovation Awards. Allbrain learning also has been listed in a world encyclopedia. He has appeared in the media to introduce the method including NHK, Fuji, Chongqing TV, Asahi, Sankei, Yomiuri, China CCTV and The Inmin Ilbo. Also, his book first published in 1980 has been in its 60th printing and sold more than 3 million copies in the US, Europe, Japan and China. “Allbrain learning is to develop the dormant part of the brain and the method makes the brain more effective. It is especially good to improve creativity” said Kim. Kim established Brain King to give more people an opportunity to learn this superfast allbrain learning. He is also actively giving lectures to teachers and always makes an emphasis on confidence in his lecture. “I always let the audience know that they are geniuses at the beginning of my lecture. We are all here with the 1/100 billion possibility against 400 eggs and 900 billion sperms. This means everybody was born with a gift to be a genius but only a lack of training. And it is the very first step to be aware that we have limitless possibilities in us” explained Kim. Meanwhile, Kim signed an agreement with The Green Life Intellectual Network in order to make his dream come true: Producing 100 Korean Nobel Prize winners.

The network is led by Dr. Lee Sang-hee, a former Minister of Science and Technology and a four time lawmaker. The network awards ‘Leonardo da Vinci Prize’ to students with excellent creativity every year and the winners are given special lectures from Dr. Kim. “Unlike China and Japan, Korea still hasn’t seen a Nobel Prize winner in the science category. That’s why I’m ambitious to produce 100 Korean Nobel Prize winners with my superfast allbrain learning method. The method also is good for elderly people who are experience a decline in memory or dementia. I will keep exerting my utmost effort in spreading allbrain learning so that I can take part in raising Korea’s national competitiveness” said Kim.
