Yulkok’s cutting edge technology in making aviation parts opens the skies of the world
CEO Wi Ho-cheol of Yulkok

Yulkok raises national competiveness with cutting edge domestic aviation parts
“Those who conquer the sky will conquer the world” said former French president François Mitterrand. According to a report on global aviation market outlook published last year, the level of air traffic would increase by yearly 4.7% for the next 20 years and would be doubled the current level in 15 years. China’s growth and activation of global FTA will also play a role to rapidly increase the traffic volume in Northeast Asia. While the US and Japan are competing shoulder to shoulder to lead the industry, Yulkok, a Korean aviation parts company, has made a considerable improvement in terms of technology, quality and price competiveness. Established as ‘Yulkok Tech Engineering’ in 1990, the company is specialized in manufacturing airframes, airplane engines and vacuum pumps. All employees are qualified engineers who can machine precision parts and the company’s excellent designing capability & CNC Program made it possible to obtain ISO9001 in 1999 and AS9100 in 2005. However, Yulkok gained more credits for localizing aviation parts. Yulkok CEO Wi Ho Cheol states that “Korea’s aviation industry is in its’ infancy stage compare to the globe market. To compete with established global leaders with large capitals and advance technologies, it is essential to focus on the localization of the aviation parts.”

‘Technical development is our future’
Under the slogan ‘technical development is our future’, Yulkok is pouring its capital and passion into R&D. The company opened a technology research lab for aviation parts in 2007 and has successfully completed and participated in numerous government projects. In 2011, Yulkok built its second factory and added an assembly line that can produce and supply airframes based on ‘turn-key base method’ in 2015. As a core partner of KAI(Korea Aerospace Industries), Yulkok is supplying parts for BOEING B737, B747-8, B777 and B787 and AIRBUS A320, A321, A330, A350 and A380 as well as trainer aircrafts KT-1, T-50 and KUH (Korean helicopter). “The support of the KAI made us possible to develop BOEING B737 SPAR&CHORD which can manage the whole manufacturing process from forming to check & straightening for the first time in Korea. We also invested SPAR MILL equipment with a 90m BED to enhance our knowhow and experience in SPAR&CHORD” said Wi. Other projects Yulkok is working on include assembling the center fuselage of KAI’s T-50, the main track rib of B777 Fixed Leading Edge and the tail wings, front spar, leading edge and closure rib of B737MAX as well as developing news parts as SPAR for A-10 and P-8A Titanium Chord forming-machining-measurement-check & straightening-assembly. Especially for the difficult to machine titanium parts, Yulkok’s ability has proven to be the globally competitive specialist that can machine titanium parts, which has contributed locally to reduce the burden of importing the titanium machined parts from overseas.

“To become a leader in global aviation parts manufacturing company”
‘Innovation and productivity’ is Yulkok’s growth slogan. To order to assure and maintain best quality for the customer, the company invested ‘3D Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)’ as the first Korean SME in 1998. The company also obtained DPD level:1&5(DPD&Fixed CMM) approval from its main clients as a result. As staff welfare is directly affects ‘innovation and productivity’, CEO Wi pays particular attention to introduce various welfare support and programs such as free accommodation, training, scholarship and club activities. Introducing new investments and creating more jobs through industry-academic cooperation has also been main part of the activities to increase productivity. “I and my employees work together and are determined to grow Yulkok into a global aviation parts company. We are confident with our accumulated technology, knowhow and experience in the field that we will surely achieve our goal. We currently have a goal to achieve 200 billion won sales by 2020 and we will prove it.”
