Life’s second spring that is filled with will for creation and community service
Preparing for 7th poetical works and debut as an artist
Park Bong-eun, poet, artist and Division Head and Regional Head of Lions Clubs International 354-D

“Publishing a poetical works every year means fullness and diligence”
For some people, life is more dramatic than dramas and movies. A poet Park Bong-eun changed his major to metal engineering from humanities when in university. He graduated as the top student and led his next 30 years working in the trading business. He enjoyed the life fully in the vitality of spring and summer but the seasons changed to fall and winter when he was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2002. In order to overcome the despair, he drove himself hard in writing poems which he had done every now and then before. He started to see things differently and as the number of his poems was piled up, so was his passion in helping others. The once fearful word ‘tomorrow’ for Park changed to ‘next day’ in which he could create new poems and meet new people. He eventually published his first poetical works in 2010 and has done it every year since then. He was recognized as a professional poet by winning the New Literary Award from Literary Space but his love of poetry remains always as pure as his childhood. Park’s works are about human relationship, his love of humanity, beautiful living things and nature. But everything he can see and hear can be a subject for his work. No matter how busy his schedule might be, he publishes a poetical works every year and it means that he lived another one year in diligence and fullness.

Poetry as means to vitalize one’s life
Park’s poetical works include ‘If only you are happy’, ‘Do you know?’, ‘For you, one’, ‘Secret Diary’, ‘Glass Doll’ and ‘For you, two’ which was published with good will to raise a fund for neighbors in need. Park’s being a poet was much influenced by his uncle poet of resistance Yang Sung-woo, his teachers including his teacher father and his Korean literature professor brother. Naturally, he showed his talent in literature from early age but he never imagined he could perfect his style like he’s done today: he tried really hard to achieve it by imitating Kim So-wol’s Azalea when he was a middle school student. Now, every single day of his life is so natural a subject to get an inspiration from. As is often the case, Jo expanded his talent to art which he once dreamed of becoming an artist. He used painting as a means to let out his sensitive emotion and one of his works was selected for the Korea Watercolor Academy and as a special selection for World Peace Art Exhibition.

Taking a new mission of Lions Clubs International and joining Moguhoe
Park’s will to help people in need is as strong as his passion in poetry and art. He received the Rose of Sharon Lion Award more than 10 times for his community services and it only took a matter of times to become Protocol Division Head (senior assistant to Chairman) of Lions Clubs International 354-D. Park says “Serving others isn’t a special action but to share part of what we have with others. No matters which way and materials we are helping them with, our will and warm heart is all that count. I once participated in serving chicken soup for 500 homeless in winter and I felt that my heart brimming up with thanks and a new meaning of life.” Currently, Park is preparing to publish his 7th poetical works and to make his debut as an artist: He has been selected for Mogu Art Contest twice already and he gets eligibility to join Moguhoe (an art association) if he is chosen one more time through which he can be recognized as a professional artist. And Park is positive and said “When I started to love life, the life started to love me.” <Power Korea> wishes Park good luck.
