Introducing the classical beauty of European style interior
“We will reward all our customers who have been with us for 39 years”
Minon Studio CEO Kim Kyung-sin

Kim, praised by antique collectors for her high taste in antique furniture and props
It is a must for a famous antique shop to have broad spectrum of goods that can satisfy each customer’s preference. In this respect, Minon Studio, located in Jung District, Daejeon, has kept its top status in the antique furniture and interior market for the last 39 years. The popularity spread frommouth to mouth and you can find all most all antique furnitureand props in the shop; bed, console, chest, stool, wardrobe, armoire, table, stand, frame, tea set and wall deco. While working for a company, Kim engaged herself in macramé and props as a sideline and eventually opened a small shop in Sambu Plaza. In order to find the goods that suit her customer’s taste, Kim traveled around the whole nation on twice monthly shop-closing days. She then displayed her findings according to its kind on the shelves and corners of her sophisticatedly decorated shop which gave an additional pleasure for customer’s eye. This was the secretshe could make a success without running a website like many shop ownersdo.

Minon, grown to accommodate 10 tons of foreign antiques twice a month
Kim’s small shop now has grown to be very spacious that can accommodate 10 tons of foreign antiques twice a month. She mainly imports the goods from her acquaintances living in the UK. Kim came to know them while staying in the country and she provides these classical antiques includingCa'd'Oro (France) andVia Veneto(Italy) at much lower prices than the existing department stores in Korea. Kim emphasizes on practicality of the antiques, made in the periods between the 17th and 20th centuries, rather than window dressing so that people can actually use it in their daily life. According to Kim, detail and color of the pattern on a console become more valuable than a console decorated with gold and jewels as time goes by. And Kim is excellentat finding the former ones whose value can last over a hundred years. For this reason, many antique lovers and collectors both home and abroad regularly pay a visit to Kim’s shop to pick one or two of their choice among more than 10,000 antique furniture and props in the shop.

“Sticking with one thing brings a success”
Antique furniture has a variety of shapes, lines, colors and patterns as well as different materials reflecting the age. And Kim knows very well which ones might suit each of her customer’s taste. This ofKim’s 39 years of knowhow and expertise in the field came from her philosophy ‘Sticking with one thing brings a success’. Although there have been many difficulties especially in shipping the goods over the borders, and a temptation to lead an easier life, her love and passion in antique furniture and props always have been bigger than the hardship and the temptation. Because antique in a word for her is a means of communication with people. Meanwhile, Kim is practicing her love of culture by painting a picture at the store time to time and attending a dancing class after work in order to broaden her knowledge and understanding about art and culture which can help raise her communication skills with customers. When asked about future plans, Kim said that she planned to open a more spacious shop near Sambu Plaza so that people can have more choice to satisfy their hearts. <Power Korea> hopes that the popularity of Minon Studio will spread to the whole nation over Daejeon in near future.
