Professional education for high value-added tourist industry

Kookje University’s Hotel Tourism Hospitality Management Dept is running many programs about various theories and practical education aiming for training professional in the global tourist hands-on job of tourism. Especially, including language skill that affects the quality of service, they are focusing on education to train talented and good-minded people who fit in the industry by hands-on experience, specialized education, personality and service training.

Professor Im Young-Soo of Hotel Tourism Hospitality Management Dept explained “Tourism industry must be highly growing and sustainable and also is a trusty industry to be capable of making dollars up to 80%. For that matter, we open Hotel & Casino department and Air Travel curriculum and now we are concentrating on training students who will have a global competitiveness in this industry.”

Firstly, as for Hotel & Casino department is breeding up future hotelier, casino dealer, bartender, sommelier, and barista since the demand of hotel, casino, restaurant, and resort industry is rising rapidly. Students don’t only learn systematic theory related to practical education but also can get a chance to work at real business places for cocktail, wine, coffee like beverage curriculum, casino dealer program etc. Also, there are class rooms for training of casino, restaurant, beverage training, and barista so that it makes students experience the real loaded job.

Air Travel is providing a specialized educational program for breeding up for Airplane Company, Tour Company, department store, duty free shop and medical tour. Students who are studying for are learning tourism management, airplane work theory, service manner and CRS..After they finish the college they could work for aircraft crew, office job, airport security team, tour program creation and even consulting, CRS, and duty free shop sales department. The biggest differentiation from other similar department he is more focusing on practical ability improvement via school-company cooperation with various relevant companies and also he is considering on quantity and quality of job for graduates. Currently Hotel Tourism Hospitality Management Dept has a good relationship with Shiila Hotel, Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel, Grand Hilton Hotel, CJ Foodville, NOLBOO Corp, HANA Tour, Interparkk Tour, Seven Luck Casino, Gangwon Land. Because of their efforts many graduates are working in those industries as a professional. Not only those students are showing their great skill at plenty of cocktail competition and barista competition and made a great job.

Focusing on global talents with skill and personality

Professor Im Young-Soo of Hotel Tourism Hospitality Management Dept started the work at SAUMSUNG GROOUP out of open recruitment and worked for SAMSUNG EVERLAND for 13 years. While he was there he was on EVERLAND and CARIBBEAN BAY R&D projects directly and took some courses to get degrees from Administration College of Korea University and Administration College of Pittsburg University. Afterwards he got a doctorial degree of tourism in Gyeonggi University and used to be an adjunct professor of Semyung since 2004. 

He established a tourism and resort consulting company called ‘E&P Consulting’ for 15 years since 1999 and used to work on various tourism and local development projects, which is more than 300 including Jeju International free city leading project and was an advising committee for many public service offices to help the local development such as Seoul, Busan, Jeollabukdo, Korail JDC, and Gyeongsangsamdo etc. And he has been teaching students at Hotel Tourism Hospitality Management Dept with his 30 years old experience since 2014. He is delivering hands-on episodes, technical knowledge and own know-how to students.

He said “I think the quality of service to customers and what they actually feel from it depends on a practical ability based with effective communication and work management on spot and hearty services and consideration for customers as a service spirit. For that we are making an effort to train global talents with personality, leadership and international sense, practical handling skills required at the business filed. Besides, with a premium curriculum we are trying to get into the top 10 list of Hotel and Tourism colleges in the metropolitan cities as a goal.

We say tourism industry is a factory without chimney. As we don’t have natural resources in Korea, tourism investment will be one of driving forcing energy for the future indeed. Let’s expect students from Kookje University’s Hotel Tourism Hospitality Management Dept to be a major role of the golden age of Korea’s tour industry one day.
