경기침체가 장기화되면서 고용시장은 날로 불안정해지고 있다. 청년실업률은 10.9%를 넘어섰으며, 비정규직 근로자의 비중도 갈수록 증가하고 있다. 출산, 육아 등의 문제로 경력이 단절된 여성의 재취업 또한 어렵기만 하다. 이에 ‘해운대직업전문학교’는 오랜 경험과 실력을 바탕으로 수준 높은 직업교육을 제공하며 많은 이들에게 미래에 대한 희망을 선사하고 있다.

최신 트렌드에 맞춘 전문 조리기능사 양성
불안정한 고용환경이 계속되면서 취업에 힘겨워하는 많은 이들의 이목이 직업전문학교로 집중되고 있다. 특화된 전문기술을 습득함으로써 보다 안정되고 비전 있는 일자리를 확보하고자 하는 것이다. 그 중에서도 ‘전문 조리사’는 최근 가장 각광받는 분야 중 하나다. 웰빙 트렌드의 등장으로 좋은 먹거리에 대한 사람들의 관심이 높아졌고, 생활수준의 향상과 여가시간의 증가로 외식을 즐기는 인구 또한 증가하는 추세이기 때문이다. 이에 더해 최근 증가하고 있는 외국인 관광객은 우리나라 관광산업의 큰 비중을 차지하는 외식 산업에 새로운 활력을 불어넣고 있다. 이에 ‘해운대직업전문학교’는 체계적이고 전문화된 조리사 양성교육을 제공하며 다양한 분야의 전문요리사를 배출하는 데 매진하고 있다. 지난 2001년 해운대조리학원으로 설립된 이후, 2006년 직업전문학교로 승격된 해운대직업전문학교는 다년간 조리사 양성학원을 운영하며 많은 경험과 실력을 쌓아온 김금옥 학교장의 노하우가 그대로 녹아들어 있다. 김 학교장은 “요리는 생활이자 즐거움입니다. 특히 최근의 식생활 흐름은 과학적이고 합리적이며 시각적인 부분까지 모두 충족시킬 수 있는 기능적인 요리에 대한 니즈가 높아지고 있습니다. 이에 따라 조리기능사와 같은 자격 제도가 도입되어 운영되는 등 다양한 조리 분야에서 전문적인 기술을 요구하고 있는 상황입니다”라고 설명했다. 해운대직업전문학교는 조리사 면허부터 복어조리기능사, 일식조리기능사, 중식과 한식조리기능사, 한식조리산업기사에 이르기까지 다양한 조리기능인재를 양성하고 있다. 또 김 학교장은 영양사 자격증을 보유하고 있어 향후 영양사를 꿈꾸는 학생들에게 실질적인 가이드라인을 제시하고 있다. 

“요리는 행복이자 즐거움입니다”
노동부인가를 받은 15년 역사의 해운대직업전문학교는 학생 중심의 다양한 커리큘럼과 자격증 취득, 높은 취업률로 인정받으며 현재까지 3천여 명의 인재를 배출했다. 특히 자격증 시험에서의 1차 합격률이 60~70%에 육박하며 교육 커리큘럼의 우수성을 증명하고 있다. 김 학교장은 “저희 학교는 분야별 최고의 강사진을 구축하고 있으며, 실습도구 또한 완벽하게 구비해놓고 있습니다. 학생들은 싱싱한 재료를 제공받으며, 즐거운 분위기 속에 수업에 열중할 수 있습니다. 또한 실전에 버금가는 정기적인 모의고사를 시행함으로써, 실제 자격증 시험에서 본연의 실력을 100% 발휘할 수 있도록 배려하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 김 학교장의 세심한 지도를 받은 학생들은 다양한 분야로 진출하며 갈고닦은 솜씨를 뽐내고 있다. 최근에는 취업률 및 유지율을 견인한 성과를 인정받아 노동부로부터 인센티브를 받기도 했다. 
김금옥 학교장은 해운대복지센터에서 운영하는 ‘사랑의 밥차’ 사업에 조리장으로 참여하고 있기도 하다. 매주 목요일마다 천여 명의 소외된 이웃들에게 영양가 있는 제철음식을 제공하고 있는 김 학교장은 “사랑의 밥차를 찾는 분들은 대부분 노숙자나 독거노인과 같은 취약계층입니다. 때문에 맛은 물론이고 영양 균형까지도 고려한 다양한 조리법을 항상 고민하고 있습니다”라며, 이곳이 자신에게 삶의 의미이자 에너지가 되어주는 행복한 공간이라고 말했다. 그밖에도 새마을부녀회, 다문화봉사, 노인반찬봉사, 기부활동 등을 꾸준히 이어온 김금옥 학교장은 2008년 해운대구청으로부터 모범시민상을 받았으며, 2013년 해운대구청장 감사패, 2014년 부산광역시장 표창을 받은 바 있다. 그는 “학교에서는 학생들이 이루고자하는 목표를 달성할 수 있도록 최선을 다해 서포트하고, 지역사회에서는 어려운 이웃들이 따뜻한 밥 한 그릇을 통해 보살핌과 위로를 받을 수 있도록 정성과 진심을 다하고자 합니다”라고 강조했다. 그의 손끝에서 피어나는 희망이라는 이름의 따스함이 보다 많은 이들에게 소중한 선물로 닿을 수 있기를 바란다.

Fostering talented cooks who can read the latest trend
More and more people turn their eyes to vocational training institutes with the hope to find a job with a professional skill or two in a certain field. And cooking is rising as one of the favorable areas to get a job more easily thank to the advent of wellbeing trend. The increasing number of foreign tourists in Korea also encourages the industry. To meet the volume of market demand in the field, Haeundae Vocational Training Institute is providing systematic curriculum to foster talented cooks. The institute was established in 2001 as a cooking academy and was upgraded as a vocation institute in 2006 thanks to Kim’s years of experience and expertise in the field. Kim says “Cooking for me is a life and a pleasure. I constantly update and reflect the latest cooking trend that can satisfy both visual pleasure & taste and rational price in the curriculum and provide practical training that is needed for obtaining certifications in the areas of nutrition, cooking, blowfish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese.”

“Cooking is happiness and pleasure”
With its 15 years of expertise in the field, Haeundae Vocational Training Institute has fostered 3,000 talented cooks. The excellence of the curriculum was proved by achieving 60~70% national exam passing rate at the 1st phase. Kim says “We have the best teachers in the field and the latest training equipment. We use fresh ingredients for training and regularly holds mock test in preparation for achieving 100% passing rate.” Recently, the institute received incentives from the Ministry of Employment & Labor for its excellent curriculum and achievement and numerous graduates are currently working in various famous kitchens. Meanwhile, Kim is serving as Head Chef of ‘Lovely Rice Car Project’ run by Haeundae Welfare Center. She says “We give out free healthy and nutritional food to underprivileged neighbors on every Thursday. I feel really rewarded whenever I’m in the kitchen of Lovely Rice Car and I find a meaning of life and energy in the kitchen.” Other community services Kim is currently doing include New Village Women’s Society, multi-cultural family support and free side dishes for elderly people. Thanks to her contribution, Kim received Good Citizenship Awards from Haeundae District Office in 2008, appreciation plaque from Governor of Haeundae District Office in 2013 and citation from Mayor of Busan in 2014.
