Bull's various figures realized through a bond of sympathy
From the bull with a plough to father to various types of men
Sculptor Park Min-sub

Personifying bulls in sculpture
Critics praised Park for his metaphoric depiction of man and society through bull sculptures. 'The Heavy Burden', for example, personified a homeless dozing when IMF hit Korea while 'A Portrait of Youth' in 2004 symbolized a young man's frustration. Also, he showed a respect to sublimity of mother through 'Mona Lisa' and turned a spoon to a sperm and a caldron to an egg in his other work 'Survival Game'. Park widely uses the elements of sculpting and modeling. He forms and dries with clay (mixed with oil) and cast it as FRP.

This process allows him to add an abstract concept to a realistic form of his work. 'Self-conceit', for example, criticized the hegemonism of the US over the Iraqi War while 'Gold! Come Out' satirized the desire for fame and power symbolized by the gold badge of lawmakers. These of Park's metaphoric depiction had a new life when he participated in the exhibition 'Bull's Stride' in 2009 (the year of bull). Park says "I'm a country-bred and knows well about stables and bulls and cows which often function as the breadwinner of a household. It also very much resembles the furrowed face and wrinkly hands of our devoted fathers. For me, a bull with a plough and the head of a household going to work in the morning with a briefcase in his hand have a lot in common." Park's works, for this reason, aroused a great sympathy from many appreciators and they paid close attention to each part, movement and expression of his bull sculptures.

Continuous R&D in new subjects and materials for bull sculpture
In 2015, Park took out a new aspect of his works. In the solo exhibition 'Dung Beetles', the bull is carrying the Earth on his shoulder like Atlas. But despite the Earth, made of iron wires, is void, it still seems to weigh down the shoulders of the bull in full force. Park placed this bull where dung beetles who roll a ball to their habitat to depict a troubled soul. In other words, Park wanted to add a new element 'fate' to father's devotion. In the work 'Pierrot (Bull)', made of bronze and 5 minerals, Park equated the fatigued pierrot with the fatigued bull to express his feeling about tears in laugh. In his latest work 'Head to Head Fight', a wooden bull and an iron bull are putting their heads in an aggressive pose. Park's intention was to show a shift from 'a man' to 'men' and their conflict. Park says "In olden times, bulls were a means of transport who carried goods and men. I got a new inspiration from this and am experimenting on making car parts such as bumper and the frame into a bull." Finding a new subject for Park is as important as completing a work. Currently, Park is planning to participate in an invitation exhibition at Jangeunsun Gallery from 6-23 April, the International Sculpture Festa Seoul in June and other large invitation exhibitions.
