Contributing to Korean's health through understanding about Korean medicine
Curing various diseases with energy meridian system treatment
Director Kang Suk-il of Kang Sukil Korean Medical Clinic

Succeeding Korean medical theory to being the first meridian system specialized doctor in Korea
There is a Korean medical clinic which is specialized in both acupuncture and meridian system treatment: Kang Sukil Korean Medical Clinic. Kang is Korean's first meridian system specialized doctor. His father obtained a PhD in Korean Medicine for the first time in Korea and served as Director of Daegu Haany University Hospital and Hyung Hee University Hospital. It was only natural for Kang to follow his father's path. Kang completed reading the full text of the Thousand-Character Classic and the Seven Chinese Classics in his childhood and ardently studied oriental medicine for 12 years from his 20's and eventually became a Korean medical doctor. According to Korean medicine, relieving extravasated blood and keeping sound internal organs are vital to maintain one's health. Kang mastered acupuncture and meridian system treatment and he used those skills for curing various diseases relating to skin, esthetics, diabetes and feminine diseases. Kang says "unlike normal meridian system treatment, I directly deliver energy to the patient. It is different from massage but related to energy meridian system treatment which uses my own hands rather than acupuncture. It is much more harder and cumbersome to use hands and it requires a lot of effort and concentration but it is much more effective." Kang found and established his own methods thanks to his father and he is now working on developing the methods deeper and further. As Kang's methods are good for curing feminine diseases, Kang provides effective ways for before & afterbirth care, infertility, skin, plastic surgery and diabetes.

Keeping the tradition of Korean medicine while taking the advantages of western medicine
Oriental medical doctors tend to see and cure various invisible diseases and soon-to-be diseases. Kang points out fatigue and stress for the cause of modern people's diseases. Korean medicine in a way is to reduce pain, stabilize the body and strengthen immunity. For this reason, treating a disease with hands and the energy it comes from are much more effective than using acupuncture. Kang said "by using Korean medicine, in cooperation with western surgery, I can find both internal & external factors of the disease. This cooperation enables me to be able to draw a long term solution by effectively using my knowledge in Korean medicine. It means that it is really constructive to keep the tradition of Korean medicine while taking the advantages of western medicine", adding that "some people confuse Korean medicine with Chinese medicine but the former comes from our own knowledge on herbs and experience which has been passed down to use since Gojoseon era"

If Korean medicine sees things as a whole, western medicine as an each part. For example, western medicine adjust or remove the parts of an eye to solve the problem while Korean medicine finds and analyse the cause of the disease first and ten cure it. Kang said "Korean medicine in a way can be explained as to find a clue from the things which we cannot see with our eyes." But as more and more western doctors are looking for a solution in Korean medicine and hoping to carry out a joint treatment, Kang wrote a book to give more accurate philosophy and knowledge about Korean medicine.

Kang's book 'Mom' to be a foundation for popularization of Korean medicine
Published in 2012, the book 'Mom' is consisted of text and pictures. The word Mom is abbreviation for the Korean word 'Maum (heart/mind)', the English word 'Mommy' and it also is the first word of Korean babies. Kang said "heart is the king of the body. Therefore, I wanted to deliver this meaning to my book. Also, mom's heart is most pure and devotional in the world and its states can affect greatly to one's health."

The word Mom focus on spirits rather than physical things and therefore represents the philosophy of Korean medicine well. Human beings are part of nature and nature itself and to understand about nature is to be healthy in Korean medical conception. Kang said "understanding about Korean medicine is more important than the development of Korean medicine. I start my treatment by explaining to my patients about the philosophy of Korean medicine. This is very important for people to build trust in Korean medicine and to spread it." Like Kang said, Power Korea hopes that he will contribute to Korean's health through understanding about the medicine as well as joint treatment with western medicine.
