Delighting the taste of consumers with sprout ginseng

With its miraculous medical effect, Korean ginseng is a famous export product of Korea. But its high price made people hesitate to buy one. To meet the consumers' wants, Ha developed aquaculture of sprout ginseng for the first time in Korea and currently is cultivating and selling sprout ginseng nationwide with improved quality and medicinal effect and it is being used in cooking as well as health food. Ha found interest in sprout ginseng when he heard the news that Rural Development Administration (RDA) succeeded in aquaculture of ginseng in 2008. He registered to RDA's technology training program and succeeded in aquaculture of sprout ginseng and eventually established Samir.

The method is to water-cultivate ginseng seedling in a high-tech greenhouse to grow in 3 to 4 months without agricultural pesticides. It contains rich saponin in leaves and roots and prevents cancer and virus, improves immunity, detoxifies alcohol and drugs, controls central nerves, diabetes and hyperlipidemia, protects cerebral nerve, promote learning ability, recovers the energy from fatigue and promotes metabolism. It is popular among older people, students, people with weak body and laborers. 

Different characteristics of sprout ginseng
Ginseng normally has been used for medicine but Ha extracted the nutritions, strengthened it and made it into various products to be easily taken such as Sprout Ginseng Extract Gold which is good for fatigue recovery and Samir Sprout Ginseng Powder which contains ginsenoside F5 (deters the generation of melanin) and is effective in improving skin conditions. It can also be used for food such as Pickled Sprout Ginseng made by using plum extract, soy source and vinegar which is a good accompaniment to meat dishes. 

As sprout ginseng is relatively less known in the market, Ha had to work hard in the field to spread the excellence of the product and eventually drew contracts with 100 restaurants and hotels nationwide. Ha also won the bronze prize at Miryang Local Dish Competition in 2012 with the food made of sprout ginseng. Ha says "ginseng is said not to be suitable for people with so much heat but sprout ginseng helps blood circulation and metabolism. As the sprout ginseng market has grown for the last 8 years, Ha built a 3,600 square meter greenhouse and facilitated with systematic production line that can produce fresh and organic sprout ginseng rich in saponin." 

Preserving the dignity of the birthplace of ginseng
Ha overcame the price, taste and scarcity of ginseng that prevented its commercialization and introduced competitive products. He recently released sprout ginseng liquor and is preparing to release grain syrup. Ha's goal is to pioneer overseas market so that he can spread the excellence of Korean food.
