김해시 외동에서 십 수년째 지역민에게 봉사하고 있는 김해중앙병원은 200여 병상의 신축건물을 짓고 매머드급 종합병원으로 새로운 도약을 시작했다. 영남권 최초로 로보닥(인공관절 로봇수술 의료장비)과 Toshiba 128CH MDCT, Philips Angio 등 최신 의료기기를 도입하여 대학병원 못지않은 수준 높은 서비스를 받을 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 최근에는 양산지역의 지역민을 위해 웅상중앙병원을 개원해 지역민에게 양질의 의료서비스를 제공하고 있는 보원의료재단의 김상채 이사장을 만나보았다.  

요람에서 무덤까지 지켜주는 지역 중심 병원, 지역 주민들을 위한 병원으로 만들 것
기존의 350병상에서 200병상이 증축돼 550병상의 매머드급 병원으로 재탄생한 김해중앙병은 로보닥 인공관절 수술장비 등 최신 의료장비를 도입해 지역민들에게 질높은 의료서비스를 제공하고 있다. 

보원의료재단 김상채 이사장은 “김해중앙병원이 증축공사로 인해 53만 김해시민들에게 대학병원 못지않은 양질의 의료서비스를 제공할 수 있음과 동시에 550병상의 매머드급 병원 위상에 맞는 의료서비스를 펼쳐 김해시민들로부터 신뢰와 사랑을 받는 병원으로 거듭날 것입니다”라고 설명했다. 1997년 의료불모지나 다름없는 김해지역에 참된 의료를 실천하기 위해 개원해 오늘날에 이르기까지 발전을 거듭해 오고 있는 김해중앙병원. 하지만 보장성 강화와 수가인하, 선택 진료비 축소, 영상수가 인하, 4대 중증질환 초음파 급여화, 상급병실료 감소 등 병원 계에서는 어려움을 토로하고 있는 반면, 국민들은 의료서비스에 대한 기대감은 점점 더 높아지는 등 의료기관과의 생존경쟁은 더욱 치열할 것으로 전망되고 있다. 이러한 시점에 김해중앙병원은 김해 시민들에게는 양질의 의료서비스를 제공함과 동시에 지금까지 일궈낸 성장을 발판삼아 발전할 수 있는 계기가 되어 김해를 대표하는 의료기관으로 거듭나게 되었다. 특히 김해중앙병원은 지난 2009년부터 ROBODOC 로보닥 인공관절 수술장비, Toshiba 128CH MDCT, Philips Angio, Philips 1.5T MRI, GE Signa EXCITE HD 1.5, Spine MT 로봇 척추 감압기, 3D NEWTON 척추 안정화 운동 치료기 등의 최신 의료장비를 차례로 도입해 대학병원 못지 않은 의료 시설을 자랑하고 있다. 이로 인해 환자들은 김해중앙병원에서 대학병원 수준의 진료를 기대할 수 있게 되었으며 대학병원에서의 오랜 대기시간도 줄일 수 있다. 

경상지역 최초로 도입한 인공관절 수술로봇 ‘로보닥’ 
그동안 인공관절 수술로봇인 ‘로보닥’을 이용한 수술은 서울과 수도권에 국한되어 있어 퇴행성관절염 등 로보닥 수술이 필요한 환자들은 수술을 받기 위해 먼 거리를 가야 하는 번거로움과 비용 부담을 감수해야 했다. 이에 김상채 이사장은 이러한 번거로움과 불편함을 없애기 위해 한강이남 동남권 경상지역에서는 최초로 ‘로보닥’을 도입해 지역민들에게 최첨단 고급의료서비스를 제공하고 있다. ‘로보닥’은 수술 전 관절부위를 올소닥으로 세밀하게 촬영한 후 정확한 수술부위를 측정한 뒤 3차원 영상으로 바꾸어 시뮬레이션을 입력하면 입력된 데이터를 근거로 ‘로보닥’ 시스템이 최첨단 의료기법으로 세밀한 수술 집도를 가능하게 하고 있다. 일반적으로 뼈를 깎는 오차 범위가 최고 수준의 외과의사가 3mm가량인데 반해 ‘로보닥’은 0.01mm정도다. 따라서 재수술의 가능성도 20%대에서 1%대로 크게 줄어드는 장점이 있다. 특히 척추, 관절분야에서 2만례 이상 수술경험이 풍부한 김상채 이사장은 “무릎수술의 경우 고도의 전문성과 정밀성이 요구되는 수술로 집도의의 충분한 수술경험과 수술기술이 요구되며 단 한 차례도 실수가 있어서는 안 되는 것이 사실입니다. 하지만 인간이기에 무릎관절수술에서 한계를 느끼는 것도 사실입니다. 이로 인해 많은 대학병원에서 외과용 수술로봇인 ‘다빈치’를 경쟁적으로 도입하여 운용하고 있는 반면 김해중앙병원에서는 대학병원에서 사용하고 있는 고가의 첨단 정형외과용 수술로봇인 ‘로보닥’을 도입, 이에 단 한 번의 실수도 용납되지 않는 완벽한 무릎관절수술 위해 경상지역에서 최초로 인공관절 로봇수술을 통해 의료의 질을 한 단계 업그레이드 하게 되었습니다”라고 설명했다. 이와 더불어 김 이사장은 정형외과 전문의로서는 드물게 관절뿐만 아니라 디스크 치료경험도 풍부하다. 그는 나노 내시경을 통한 디스크 최소상처수술은 물론, 관절내시경 수술과 인공관절 수술 능력이 뛰어나다는 평을 듣고 있다.

대학병원 못지않은 시설을 자랑하는 김해중앙병원
김해중앙병원은 현재 23개의 진료과 50여 명의 전문 의료진이 각 분야별로 진료를 하고 있으며 지역병원 이지만 대학병원 못지않은 의료시설을 자랑하고 있다. 집중치료센터 별도 병동운영, 중환자실 전담의를 별도로 배치, 수술실의 확대, 구강외과 전문의를 초빙해 임플란트 전문센터를 구축하고 피부과, 성형외과, 정신건강의학과 등이 신설돼 한층 수준 높은 진료를 제공하고 있다. 또한 고령화와 생활습관의 변화로 인한 심·혈관계 질환을 진단하고 치료 할 수 있는 ‘심장혈관전문센터’를 열어 차원 높은 양질의 의료서비스를 제공하고 있다. 이는 심장 질환을 조기에 진단하고 치료하는 종합 심장 진료 및 치료센터로서 내과, 흉부외과, 영상의학과, 응급의학과 전문의들의 협진 시스템과 첨단 CARDIAC, ANGIO 장비를 갖추고 있으며 환자들의 진료편의를 위하여 빠른 시간 내에 모든 심장관련 검사를 마칠 수 있는 시스템을 구축하였다. 심혈관센터의 운영과 더불어 24시간 응급의료전문의 진료체제를 도입하여 김해지역 대표적인 지역응급의료기관으로서의 역할을 좀 더 전문화하여 운영 중에 있다. 기존의 응급상황 발생 시, 대처할 수 있는 전문 의료 인력의 부족으로 대도시병원으로 이송 중 소중한 생명이 유지되지 못했으나 앞으로는 24시간 응급의학전문의와 첨단 응급장비로 인하여 김해지역에서의 응급환자 발생 시 신속한 치료와 함께 대도시로 가야하는 불편함과 보호자의 불안감을 해소 할 수 있게 되었다. 뿐만 아니라 뼈 부분(정형외과 척추 전문의)과 신경부분(신경외과 척추 전문의)을 동시에 종합적으로 치료하는 척추센터와 각 부위별 관절 질환에 대한 풍부한 임상경험을 갖춘 전문 의료진과 최신 의료장비로 관절 수술을 시행하고 있는 관절센터도 운영하고 있다. 또한 지난해 11월에는 보건복지부 지정 ‘지역응급의료센터’로 승격되었으며 2015년 4월에는 혈액투석 적정성 평가에서 3년 연속 1등급을 받기도 했다. 

경상남도에서 유일하게 달빛어린이병원으로 지정 
지난해 11월, 김해중앙병원은 보건복지로부터 경남에서는 유일하게 달빛어린이병원으로 지정되어 어린들을 위한 야간 진료를 운영하고 있다. 일반적으로 응급실을 찾는 환자 가운데 30% 정도인 소아환자들은 대부분 가벼운 증상으로 병원을 찾는다. 하지만 밤 시간대에 문을 여는 소아과가 없기 때문에 부득이 응급실을 이용하고 있는 실정이다. 때문에 일반 의료기관이 문을 닫는 토요일과 일요일, 공휴일에는 응급실 환자가 많아 대기시간이 길어 간단한 처방도 받기 어렵고 고통을 참기 어려운 아이들의 경우 매우 힘든 시간을 보내야 하는데 이런 불편을 덜기 위해 생긴 것이 달빛어린이병원이라고 보면 된다.

 “달빛 어린이병원은 1년 365일 휴일 없이 야간 진료를 할 수 있는 시스템으로 평일에는 오후6시부터 밤12시, 토요일에는 오후1시부터 밤12시까지 진료를 하며 공휴일과 일요일에는 오전 9시부터 오후12시까지 진료를 합니다. 병원 경영의 차원에서는 적자인 부분이 없다고 할 수 없습니다. 하지만 병원의 이익보다는 지역민들에게 헌신하는 차원에서 달빛어린이병원을 운영하게 되었습니다. 특히 의료의 수요와 공급 측면에서 보면 수요자의 편의를 위해 정말 필요한 분야입니다. 김해중앙병원이 경남에서 첫 발걸음을 내디뎠기 때문에 병원 운영과 경영 측면에서 모범이 돼야 하는 부담도 있습니다. 하지만 지역 꿈나무들의 건강한 미래를 위해 아동 의료복지 서비스를 확대한다는 측면에서 최선을 다할 것입이다.”

웅상중앙병원의 개원과 더불어 재도약하는 보원의료재단
웅상지역 응급환자들은 부산과 울산지역의 병원까지 가야 하는 불편함을 겪어야만 했다. 이런 지역민들의 불편함을 덜어주기 위해 지난 2월 보원의료재단 웅상중앙병원이 개원하게 되었다. 웅상중앙병원은 지하 1층 및 지상 4층의 규모의 건물에 10개 전문 진료센터와 30여명의 전문의, 214병상을 갖춘 종합병원으로 내과, 정형외과, 신경외과, 일반외과, 응급의학과, 소아청소년과 등 17개의 전문진료과를 운영중에 있다. 뿐만 아니라 심장혈관조영장치인 안지오(Angio), MRI, CT, 척추재활치료기 등 첨단 의료장비를 갖추고 응급의학과 전문의가 응급의학센터를 통해 365일 24시간 진료하고 있다. 또한 김해중앙병원과 함께 보건복지부로부터 야간 및 휴일에도 진료를 하는 달빛어린이병원으로 지정되어 양산달빛어린이병원 운영도 함께 운영하고 있다. 

“일반적으로 훌륭한 병원이라 함은 첨단 검사 장비와 최신 치료법 등이 훌륭한 병원 조건으로 손꼽을 수 있습니다. 하지만 보원의료재단은 그에 못지않게 환자와의 유대관계를 통해 신뢰감을 구축할 수 있도록 최선을 다하고 있습니다. 환자를 위해 다가가는 병원, 내 집처럼 편한 병원, 환자가 믿고 신뢰할 수 있는 병원 등 모든 조건을 충족시켜 진료를 받았던 환자들이 추후에도 계속 내원하는 병원이 될 때 훌륭한 병원이라고 할 수 있습니다. 뿐만 아니라 사회환원사업의 일환으로 지역사회와의 소통을 통해 앞으로도 지역민의 건강을 지키고 실질적으로 도움을 줄 수 있는 여러 방법들을 강구해 사랑의 손길을 전달하는 소임을 다할 것이며 기존의 지역민을 위한 의료 봉사활동 외에 문화행사 등을 통해 지역민과 연계해 김해를 위한 공헌활동에도 일익을 담당하는 특성 있는 의료기관으로 발전해 나갈 것입니다.”

People-centered local hospitals taking responsibility of the local resident's health
Gimhae Jungang Hospital is a big local general hospital that is facilitated with 550 sickbeds and cutting edge medical equipments including Robodoc Artificial Joint Surgical Equipment. Kim says "with its recent extension to the main building, Gimhae Jungang Hospital can compare with university hospitals in terms of its size and is providing quality medical services to the 530,000 Gimhae citizens." It was established in the city in 1997 when there were not many medical facilities in the region. According to a report, many hospitals are suffering from low medical insurance fee policy, low medical charge, reduction of selected treatment cost, benefits on ultrasonic waves on the four major diseases and low premium ward fee while the public expectation on health benefits are ever increasing. Gimhae Jungang Hospital nevertheless is doing its best to provide quality health services in the region. The hospital introduced Robodoc Artificial Joint Surgical Equipment, Toshiba 128CH MDCT, Philips Angio, Philips 1.5T MRI, GE Signa EXCITE HD 1.5, Spine MT Robot Spinal Depressurizer and 3D NEWTON Spine Stability Exercise Curer. Patients can expect university hospital level services at a reasonable medical cost in Gimhae Jungang Hospital. 

Introducing Robodoc for the first time in Kyongsang area
Many of those who suffered from arthritis had to travel up to Seoul to have appropriate treatments as Robodoc-led surgery was mainly done in the capital area. Kim introduced Robodoc Artificial Joint Surgical Equipment for the first time in Kyongsang area to provide the same quality services to local residents. Robodoc examines the inflamed joints with Orthodoc to find the exact operation point and change the information to 3D images to make a simulation so that Robodoc can control the operation procedure. The advantage of using Robodoc is that the error of cutting the bone a talented surgeon can make during the operation is 3mm while Robodoc is 0.01mm. This means that Robodoc reduces reoperation possibility to 1% from 20%. Kim has done approximately 20,000 times of the related operations in the field and says "surgery on the joints requires high level skills and precision and the surgeons must have enough experience as not a single mistake should be allowed. But surgeons sometimes face their limitation because they are human at the end of the day. This is the reason many university hospitals are using a surgical robot called 'Davinci' but we introduced a more cutting edge surgical robot 'Robodoc' to reduce the mistakes to a minimum." Kim also has many experience in treating discs as he is praised for his excellent skills in minimum scar disc operation, joint endoscopic operation and artificial joint operation. 

Gimhae Jungang Hospital boasting topnotch medical equipments
The hospital has 23 departments and 50 medical professionals that can compare with university hospitals. They are running a special ward in the serious patient center, expanded surgery rooms, built an implant specialized center and recently introduced dermatology, plastic surgery, mental health department and cardiovascular center. Especially, they built a cooperative medical treatment system between internal medicine, thoracic surgery, radiology and emergency and facilitated Cardiac and Angio equipments so that the patients can be treated accurately yet quickly. They are also running a cardiovascular center and introduced a 24 hour emergency team. This is because patients sometimes died while they were being moved to a large hospital in the capital area due to a lack of emergency centers in the city. In addition, they are running a Spine Center and a Joint Center facilitated with bone and nerve related cutting edge equipments to cure the pain comprehensively. The hospital was appointed as a regional doc-in-a-box in November 2014 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and received the first grade for 3 years in a row in the hemodialysis capacity assessment last month. 

Being appointed as the sole Moonlight Children's Hospital in South Gyeongsang Province
The hospital was appointed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as the sole Moonlight Children's Hospital in the province in November last year and is carrying out a night medical treatment for the children in the region. This is because 30% of children with light symptoms visit emergency as all pediatrics are closed at night. The emergency became really crowded especially on weekends and holidays and children had to way for long hours to get their turn. Moonlight Children's Hospital is introduced to solve this problem. Kim says "Moonlight Children's Hospital is 24/7, run between 6 p.m. and midnight on weekday, 1 p.m. to midnight on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to midnight on Sundays and holidays. I can say that we have administrative deficit in some parts but we willingly took the project as taking care of the residents and their children are more important than making profits."

A New leap forward with Ungsang Jungang Hospital
Emergency patients in Ungsang had to travel to nearby cities such as Busan and Ulsan to get a treatment. To solve this problem, Bowon Medical Foundation opened Ungsang Jungang Hospital last February in the region. It is a 4 storey and 1 basement general hospital boasting 30 medical professionals, 214 sickbeds and 10 departments including internal medicine, orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, emergency and pediatrics and is facilitated with cutting edge medical equipments such as Angio, MRI, CT and spinal rehabilitation device. The hospital is running 24/7 and it is appointed as a Moonlight Children's Hospital.

Kim says "good hospitals, generally speaking, are facilitated with topnotch medical equipments and treatment methods. We are pursuing to make our hospitals comfortable and trustworthy as well as providing the best medical services available and we call it a great hospital. Not only this, we will carry out various community activities such as free medical services for disadvantaged people so that we can contribute to the development of regional society."
