긍정적이고 주체적인 마인드로 내 안의 적성을 찾다
아이들의 행복한 삶의 토대를 든든히 해줄 길잡이

높은 학력과 스펙이 곧 취업과 성공으로 이어지던 시대는 지났다. 각 대학과 기업에서는 인성면접을 인재가 갖춰야 할 중요한 요소로 꼽고 있으며, 구직자들 또한 자신의 적성에 맞는 일을 찾고자 동분서주하고 있다. 이러한 ‘인성·적성 중시’의 풍토는 최근 빈번히 발생하는 사회 문제와도 연관이 깊다. 이미 오래전부터 학교폭력과 왕따, 자살 문제는 청소년 교육에 있어서 화두가 되어왔으며, 청년 실업률과 우울증 증가는 자신의 정체성을 잃어가는 현대인들을 상징하는 대표적인 지표가 되고 있다.

잠재된 가능성을 키워주는 인성교육
최근 서울대는 모든 모집단위에서 인성 평가를 강화하겠다고 밝혔다. ‘시대가 요구하는 인재는 지성과 함께 공공성으로 무장된, 따뜻한 가슴을 가져야 한다’는 것이 그 이유였다. 기업 채용에서도 인성면접의 중요성은 날로 커지고 있다. 이윤을 추구해야하는 기업에서 인성을 중시하는 이유는 ‘올바른 인성 위에 뛰어난 실력이 갖춰진다’는 판단이 작용했기 때문이다.

한국인성연구원은 지난 14년간 청소년 인성교육을 전문적으로 시행해 온 청소년 인성교육 전문기관이다. 미래의 주역이 될 청소년들의 올바른 가치관 확립을 목표로 하고 있는 연구원에서는 다양한 프로그램을 시행하며 청소년들의 변화와 성장을 이끌고 있다. 이성원 이사장은 “인성교육이란 단순히 예의 바르고 규칙을 잘 지키는 온순한 아이를 길러내는 것이 아니라, 아이의 기질을 이해하고 잠재적인 가능성을 키워주는 교육을 의미합니다”라고 설명했다.

연구원에서는 ‘마인드UP 인성교육’ 프로그램을 통해 아이들의 근본적인 마음의 변화를 유도하고 있다. 스스로의 삶에 주체가 되는 자기주도적 변화는 아이들에게 내적 동기를 부여하고, 이를 통한 행동의 변화를 이끌어 내고 있다. 이러한 교육을 통해 아이들은 자기를 이해하고 반성하는 자기성찰력, 자신의 충동을 조절하여 감정을 긍정적으로 활용하는 정서조절력, 스스로를 성찰하고 조절하며 실천할 수 있는 인성능력을 높이게 된다. 

이성원 이사장은 ‘인성교육의 주체는 학생과 부모, 그리고 교사’라고 강조했다. 그는 “학생의 가치관은 가정과 학교, 그리고 사회라는 울타리 안에서 다양한 영향을 주고받으며 형성됩니다. 특히 부모의 역할은 무엇보다 중요합니다. 자녀가 자신의 삶을 주도적으로 살며, 그 속에서 가치를 찾을 수 있도록 부모는 ‘조력자’의 역할을 해야합니다”라고 역설했다. 연구원에서는 이에 일환으로 ‘교직원 인성교육’, ‘부모교육’ 등을 실시, 매년 광주를 비롯해 서울, 일산, 수원, 부산, 대구 등 전국을 순회하며 인성교육 설명회, 간담회, 세미나 등의 형식으로 청소년 인성교육의 저변확대에 힘쓰고 있다. 

꿈과 목표를 가지고 나아가는 아이들
한국인성연구원은 학생들이 자신의 적성을 찾고, 진로를 탐색할 수 있도록 ‘마인드UP 진로인성학교’ 프로그램을 진행하고 있다. 진로인성학교는 자신의 정체성을 긍정적으로 바라보고 자신의 성향·흥미·재능·가치관을 살펴보는 ‘자기이해’, 꿈과 비전을 설정하고 다양한 직업세계와 진로 유형을 탐색하는 ‘진로탐색’, 자신의 감정과 정석을 발견해 열정과 자신감을 키우는 ‘열정발견’, 자신의 꿈과 목표를 이루기 위해 구체적으로 나아갈 계획과 전략을 세우는 ‘진로디자인’ 등의 단계별 프로그램으로 구성되어 있다. 이 이사장은 “마인드UP 진로인성학교를 통해 일찌감치 자신의 진로를 결정한 학생들도 있고, 일반 대학에 진학하며 학문에 정진하는 학생들도 있습니다. 무엇보다 기쁜 것은 이 학생들이 자신의 재능을 꾸준히 탐색하고 노력했으며, 이를 통해 자신의 꿈을 향해 한 발짝씩 나아가고 있다는 점입니다”라며 뿌듯함을 드러냈다. 또한 초등학교 6학년 때부터 고3까지 ‘마인드UP 진로인성학교’와 ‘마인드UP 캠프’에 참여해왔던 한 학생이 최근 미국 버클리 음대에 4년 전액 장학생으로 선발되는 등의 쾌거를 거두기도 했다고 밝혔다. 

연구원은 그밖에도 7~9세 어린이 대상의 ‘어린이 리더십 인성캠프’, 중고등학생 대상의 ‘청소년 진로인성캠프’, 10~19세까지 학생과 부모가 함께하는 ‘프리미엄 인성캠프’ 등 국내 마인드UP 캠프와 필리핀에서 이루어지는 해외 마인드UP 캠프인 필리핀 영어캠프를 진행하고 있으며, 올해부터는 뉴질랜드에서의 글로벌 리더 교육도 실시할 계획이다.

연구원은 현재 청소년의 행복을 위한 가족인성교육, 저소득층 가정에 대한 인성교육지원, 다문화 청소년과 부모를 위한 교육지원, 청소년이 행복한 대안학교 설립 추진, 글로벌 인재육성을 위한 글로벌 교육 확대, 청소년 문화시설 건립, 장학사업 등의 청소년 관련 사업을 펼치고 있다. 이성원 이사장은 “인성교육은 인간의 본질적인 것을 다루는 교육입니다. 앞으로도 저희는 인성교육의 중심에 서서 마인드UP 인성교육을 널리 보급하고, 이를 통해 청소년이 행복하고 건강한 사회를 만들기 위해 노력하겠습니다”라고 밝혔다.

확고하고 뚜렷한 꿈과 목표가 있다면 어떻게 사는 것이 가치 있고 행복한 삶인지, 무엇을 할 때가 가장 행복한지에 대한 대답은 쉽게 찾을 수 있다. 자신의 길에 대한 믿음은 좌절의 순간에도 우리를 일으켜 세워 주는 든든한 버팀목이 된다. 청소년들이 자신의 삶을 스스로 개척하고 행복한 삶을 향해 나아갈 수 있도록 돕고 있는 이들의 뜨거운 열정에서 대한민국의 더 나은 내일이 엿보이는 듯하다.

It is finished the time of that high specification and education level lead to job hunting and success. Most of universities and companies are nowadays thinking of the personality is an important factor and job seekers are also trying to find what kind of job is fitting in their personality. This trend of being serious about aptitude and personality is actually associated with social problems, which happens quite often these days. Already a long time ago, school violence and bullying and suicide problems have been an issue to teenagers education and the increase of youngsters’ unemployment rate and depression were getting an important indicator of that people are losing their identity. 

Personality education that breeding potential possibility 
Recently, SNU announced they will strengthen the evaluation of personality out of every applicant sector. The reason why is because nowadays’ talented people must have hearted mind with intelligence and public concern. As for company’s job opening, an interview of personality is getting more important. The reason why companies are caring for the important of personality is because they decide a righteous personality makes a prominent capability. 

Korea Research Institute of Human Nature is a professional training center that has been completing for young kids’ personality education for last 14 years professionally. With various programs, they are leading of the change and growth of young people. Director Lee Sung-Won explained, “What a personality education is not only to teach being polite and raise kids who can keep the rules, but also to understand kids’ characters and educate their potential possibility.” 

Korea Research Institute of Human Nature is inducing the fundamental change of mind of kids throughout the program, ‘MIND UP Personality Education’. An independent change that is being an owner of the life by self gives internal motivation and it leads some changes of behavior out of it. With that education, children could control their own impulsive into use their positive emotional control and enhance their personality ability to look back, control and act. 

Director Lee Sung-Won emphasized the principle agents are students, parents and teachers. He urged, “The value of students is building up by much different influence for each other within a social fence. And within a fencing called a society is making up for various each other. Especially the duty of parents is most important. Parents have to check their kids have to live independently, so they have to support them as a supporter.” 

For that, Institute is working on enlargement of base of personality of young people in ways of presentation, discussion and seminars by moving around the country like Seoul, Ilsan, Suwon, Busan and Daegu including Gwangju every year while they are working on faculty personality education, parenting education etc. 

Children who going forward with dream and goal 
Korea Research Institute of Human Nature is working on the program ‘MIND UP Personality Education’ so that they can let them explore to find their aptitude and discover the future. Job personality school is looking at human identity in a positive way. To achieve the goal and dream of discovery of passion that grows passion and confidence by discovering their emotions and standard procedure and exploration of career to figure out various job world and job pattern, it consists of step-by-step program like a career design to have future plan and strategy. 

Director Lee showed off the pride with saying this, “There are some students who decided about what to do in the future by ‘MIND UP Personality Education’ program and others already went to the universities to keep studying for their dreams. Above the all, what the most delightful thing is that they had been trying and exploring their talents by themselves and they are going forward step by step toward what they want to be.” Also, one student who went through the program from 6th grade of elementary school to 3rd grade of high school under the ‘MIND UP Personality Education’ program lately got accepted to enter the Berkley Music School with a full scholarship. 

Other than this, Korea Research Institute of Human Nature is running a kids leadership personality camp for 7~9 years old, a youth course personality camp for middle and high school students and a premium personality camp for 10~19 years old students and their parents together. Besides, apart from Korean ‘MIND UP Personality Education’ program, there is the English MIND UP camp program in Philippines and from this year, they plan to start the global leader education in New Zealand. Korea Research Institute of Human Nature currently is doing some different kinds of personality programs such as family personality education for youth’s happiness, supporting personality education for the low class family, supporting program for multicultural youth and their parents, establishing a youth culture facility and scholarship business etc. Director Lee Sung-Won said, “Personality education is a thing to care about human beings’ nature. From now on, we will spread this MIND UP personality programs widely and try to make a healthy society where the youth feel happy via that program.” 

If there is a clear and determined dream or goal, find the answer about who to live, what to do and what a valuable life is easily, perhaps. A belief for what we are doing for the future would be a trustful prop whenever we are frustrated in a moment too. I could see a better Korea out of their passion to help young students and kids live happy and let them find explore alone.
