[Cover Story] Director Park Ki-su of Gwangju Southern District Arts Hall Youth Training Center
The center where young people foster their dreams and personality
Being a benchmark for regional sports and culture centers

Innovating the centers
Taking the user-friendliness as top priority

The life and experience in youth are really important as the period can  significantly affect one's life in the future. Gwangju Southern District Arts Hall Youth Training Center opened its door in 2003, developed various programs for youth and help them foster their dreams and hopes as well as personality. Their goal is to promote independent and talented young people who will lead the 21st century through a variety of innovative programs, and to promote youth welfare. The director Park is one of founding members of the center in 2003, retired from the position in 2008 but reelected as the current position in 2012. Park checked improvement points of the center and carried out repair work and improvement programs by asking a help from authority. The first thing he did, however, was to move his office to current position. Park says "the office in fact was inconvenient for visitors to use as it's cold in winter and hot in summer. That's why I moved the office. Practicality of the office is more important than having a nice office." Also, Park is planning to relocate the programs for babies and children to be held on the first floor of the center for an easy use.

Being a benchmark for regional sports and culture center
Holding a joint concert at 'Dream Orchestra Gwangju'

Gwangju Southern District Arts Hall is a six-storey building with a basement (2,824.98§³). It boasts the largest scale among local government training centers facilitating swimming pools, choir rooms, concert halls, dance halls and lecturing halls with 4,000 residents using the center per month. The center has become a benchmark for other youth training centers nationwide thanks to its variety of programs and facilities. They have various sports and cultural programs to encourage young people to have healthy hobbies and to raise their quality lives. 'Dream Orchestra Gwangju' which they has been running for many years is a good example to spread the pleasure of music and harmony to young people. The program is really popular that the participated students formed a group and held a year-end concert last year.

Creating the best youth training center
Kim worked as a public servant for 10 years and has grown very attentive to social welfare. He now has carried out social services for nearly 30 years and it became part of his life. Park is also serving as the chief director of the center from this year. Southern District is famous for social services as 90,000 out of 23,000 residents are participating in various social activities. Meanwhile, the center is planning to have a field trip to learn and experience successful programs of other centers nationwide. Park says "the authority carried out a safety inspection on 15 facilities including department stores and multiple public facilities recently and we are the only one who passed the inspection. We will do our best to keep our status."
