김 변호사가 파란우산 서비스를 시작하게 된 것은 서민, 노동자 계층의 권익보호를 위해 오랫동안 정치계에서 활동했던 경력과 법무법인 예율에서 지난 2년간 운영해 온 ‘서민법률지원센터’의 경험에서 비롯됐다. 평소 서민과 중산층에게 법의 문턱이 지나치게 높은 것에 고심했던 김 변호사는 서민법률지원센터를 운영하며 의뢰인의 경제상태가 일정수준 이하인 경우 소송액과 상관없이 수임료를 150만 원 이하만 받는 ‘반값 수임료’ 정책을 시행해왔다. 그는 “10,000건에 가까운 법률 상담을 진행하며 분쟁을 충분히 사전에 예방할 수 있었던 경우가 많았음을 알았습니다. 언제가 가까이서 도움을 드릴 방법을 고민하다가 ‘파란우산’ 서비스를 기획하게 되었습니다”라고 밝혔다.

소비자의 정당한 권리를 보호하다
우리는 살면서 맞닥뜨리게 될 교통사고나 재해, 질병에 대한 대비책으로 보험을 가입한다. 실제로 많은 보험사들이 그런 상황이 발생했을 경우 금전적인 지원을 약속하며 고객들에게 보험을 권유하고 있다. 하지만 금융감독원의 발표에 따르면 최근 4년간 보험사의 보험금 지급거절이 34만 건에 달한다고 한다. 대기업에서 자사 규정을 들며 보험금 지급을 거절하거나 지불금액을 낮춰도 법을 잘 모르는 고객들은 억울하게 당할 수밖에 없는 것이다. 파란우산에서는 이처럼 보험사가 보험금 지급을 거절했을 때, 고객을 대신하여 보험사를 상대로 보험금 지급 독촉 및 보험금 청구 소송을 수행하고 있다.

김웅 변호사는 사전에 미리 관련된 법률 지식을 가지고 있거나, 적절한 시기에 알맞은 법률 상담을 받는 것만으로 해결될 수 있는 분쟁이 상당히 많다고 지적했다. 특히 쉽게 해결할 수 있는 시기를 놓치고 대수롭지 않게 여기다가, 시일이 지난 후에 큰 손해를 봐야하는 경우도 부지기수라고 한다. 파란우산에서는 가입비 11만원(부가세 포함)으로 2년간의 법률적 보호를 제공하며, 연 5회의 법률자문도 서비스하고 있다. 여타의 일반적인 무료법률상담전화와 다른 점은 ‘파란우산 법률자문’의 경우 회원제로 지불된 금액에 의해 제공되는 것이기 때문에 상세하고 정확한 법률 자문을 서비스한다는 것이다. 또한 무리하게 수백만 원 상당의 사건수임을 유도하지 않으며, 법무법인에 소속된 다양한 분야의 전문변호사들이 직접 법률 자문을 수행한다는 강점을 가진다.

Lawyer Kim Woong pointed out there are many legal disputes to be able to be solved if people know some knowledge of law in advance or in time. Especially, people usually ignored the seriousness in the beginning then later they would regret it a lot. <Blue umbrella> requires for 110,000 (including surtax) for 2 years to provide any legal service and 5 times legal advices per year as well.
