난립하는 건강식품시장에서 기술력으로 우뚝 서다

식약청의 발표에 의하면 국내 홍삼시장은 전체 건강식품 시장의 약 53%에 달한다. 우리나라 국민들에게 홍삼은 곧 건강을 상징하는 식품이라는 것이다. 그만큼 수많은 홍삼관련 회사들이 난립하고 있으며 소비자들은 어떤 제품을 선택해야 할지 쉽게 결정하지 못하는 것이 현실이다. 이럴 땐 제품의 함량이나 특징, 그리고 제조 회사의 기술력을 두루 살펴 제품을 골라야한다. 그중에서 자신만의 특허를 가진 기술력과 공신력 있는 여러 기관들의 선택을 받아 건강기능식품시장을 선도하며 뛰어난 제품으로 고객만족을 실현하고 있는 ㈜동일을 찾아가 보았다.

오직 기술력으로 쌓아올린 신뢰의 기업
정의권 대표가 1989년 창업한 (주)동일은 건강기능식품 제조업체이다. 현재 인천공항 면세점, 롯데 면세점에 입점하고 있으며 미국, 일본, 러시아, 필리핀, 베트남, 싱가포르 및 유럽 등 세계를 상대로 수출을 하는 글로벌기업이기도 하다. 2014년 12월에 있었던 제51회 무역의 날에는 대통령으로부터 300만불 수출의 탑을 수상하였다. 이처럼 약 20년 만에 세계 속에 우뚝 서게 된 원동력은 무엇일까? 그것은 바로 제품개발에 대한 정 대표의 열정이다. 창업 후 겨우 5년만인 2004년에 ISO9001(국제표준화) 인증을 획득했다. 제품을 생산 및 공급하는 품질경영시스템을 인정받은 것으로 소비자들에게 제품에 대한 강한 믿음을 주었다.

또한, 2006년엔 ‘우수건강기능식품 제조기준(GMP}’지정, 2013년엔 ‘HACCP(식품유해요소 중점관리기준)’지정을 통해 소비자들에게 (주)동일의 제품이 얼마나 안전하고 깨끗한지 꾸준히 알리고 신뢰를 쌓았다. 그리고 작년에는 인체유래 3종 유산균을 이용한 홍삼농축액 제조방법에 대한 특허를 따내 다른 경쟁사를 제치고 국내외의 시장을 선도하는 리더(Leader)기업으로 우뚝 서게 되었다. (주)동일의 기술력은 세계에서도 인정을 받았다. 작년 12월에 중국뿐 아니라 전 세계에서 가장 유명한 ‘동인당’ 한의원의 청도회장이 방문을 한 것이다. 이번 방문으로 중국수출이 더욱 탄력을 받게 되었다. “끊임없는 R&D로 제품의 가치 향상에 주력하며 국내를 넘어 전 세계인들의 건강한 삶의 질 향상에 이바지하고 싶다”라며 정 대표는 말한다.

기업문화의 기본을 공생(共生)에 두고 나눔을 베푸는 건강한 기업문화를 선도
정 대표는 고객들의 사랑으로 회사가 성장할 수 있었기에 그 사랑을 사회에 환원하는 일에 앞장을 서고 있다. 특히, 앞으로 우리나라를 이끌어갈 꿈나무들에게 희망을 주고 싶어 하던 정 대표는 약 10년 전인 2005년에 (재)선학장학재단에 큰 기부를 하여 이사로 위촉이 되었다. 정 대표가 어렸을 적 다녔던 경주시 용강동의 황성초등학교에는 학생들이 매일 구독할 수 있도록 2010년부터 소년한국일보를 꾸준히 기증하고 있다. 고향인 경주 용강동과 함께 회사가 있는 포천시에도 지역의 외로운 어르신 분들을 위해 홍삼선물세트 각각 1,000박스를 기증했으며 어려운 환경의 다문화가정을 위해 2013년 송년회를 주최하며 홍삼 제품을 증정하였다.

사회에 사랑을 나누는 활동을 하며 포천시장의 서한과 감사패, 경기도지사 표창, 보건복지부장관 표창을 비롯해, 산업통상자원부장관으로부터 수출 공로상, 경기도 유망중소기업 재인증, 2014년 자랑스런 대한국민대상을 수상하였다.  “인류의 건강 증진을 위한 기업인 만큼 어려운 이웃들을 돌아보는 것이 당연한 일이다”라고 말하는 정의권 대표. 참사랑을 실천하고 나눔을 베푸는 건강한 기업문화를 선도하며 더불어 살아가는 사회를 만들기 위한 정 대표의 최선을 다하는 노력은 앞으로도 멈추지 않을 전망이다.

A trusted company built on technology
Jung established Dongil in 1989 to produce functional food for health. He has stores in Duty Free Shop in Incheon Int'l Airport and Lotte Duty Free. Dongil is also a global company which exports its products to US, Japan, Russia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and Europe. They received $3m Tower of Export at The 51st Trade Day on December 2014 from President Park. The driving force of this result was nothing but Kim's passion. He obtained ISO9001 (international standard) within 5 years of its establishment in 2014. He gave their customers a strong impression through their highly praised production & supply quality management system.

He also gained trust on the cleanliness and safety of the products by being appointed from GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and HACCP. Last year, he obtained a patent for a red ginseng manufacturing method by using 3 kinds of human biologic lactobacillus and is leading the industry. Their technology was also recognized abroad. They were visited by the Qingdao branch manager of Beijing Tongrentang, which is the most famous oriental medical clinic in the world, last December. The visit enable them to boost up the export. Jung said "we will focus on increasing the value of our products through continuous R&D to contribute for the health of mankind."

Jung is leading a social contribution activities as his company could grow up by the love of customers. Jung especially wanted to give hope for children and he was appointed as a board member of Sunhak Scholarship Foundation for donating huge sums of money in 2005.

Jung also has been donating The Boy Hankook Ilbo to Hwangsung Elementary School (Jung's alma mater) in Yonggang-dong, Gyeongju City since 2010. He also gave out 1,000 boxes of Red Ginseng Gift Box for lonely elderly people in Pocheon City where the company is located, and held a 2013 year-end party for multi-cultural families. As for his contributions to society, Jung received various awards including a Letter and Appreciation Plaque from the Mayor of Pocheon City, a Citation from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province and the Minister of Health & Welfare, an Export Achievement Award from the Minister of Trade, Industry & Energy, an Approval of Promising Small & Medium Business from Gyeonggi Province, and 2014 Proud Korean Awards.

Jung said "as a social enterprise, we should take care of our neighbors." Jung's passion and contribution will never stop and Power Korea supports Jung and his company Dongil.
