Another expression of pine trees by painting with one stroke of a brush!

Artist Lee, Chang-Jo

Living the second life as an artist

Artist Lee, Chang-Jo started being a professional artist as a job quite late. After graduating from a western painting department of an art school, Hong-Ik University, he ran an art institute to train students who wanted to be artists. But, now, he came into the professional art world and has been expressing his passion about what he really wanted to show to people. For a long time, he had known the trend with his students and their sensibilities for a while, so his challenge was actually filled with the confidence, not a fear. Artist Lee¡¯s latest pine tree works look something new expression of pine trees, and it is not any other pine tree we have seen from other artists. His pine trees have a Korean spirit. He majored in a western painting, but his works have Korean characters such as some spaces and one stroke of a brush. Inside there, there are the power of the artist and the spirit of Koreans; therefore, it feels like something new with the meaning of pine trees in itself.

¡°As we know, pine trees have been considered as our lives from a long time as one and the meaning of plant is fidelity, integrity and loyalty as the top of the ten traditional Symbols of Longevity. I wanted to put our lives and spirits in a new way and would like to give any audience a new feeling that pine trees paintings could be changed like this.¡± Other than this, from his pine trees painting, we feel a subtle attraction. It is a ultra-marine blue color in expression. With that unique color pattern in pine trees, we might feel the universe and the soulful things. Like that expression and topics, they are much coming with the oriental paintings, but he put them in the western painting style and his refined expression attracts people.

Besides pine trees, artist Lee, Chang-Jo is describing many other things. Using empty glasses, he sublimated nowadays¡¯ completed feelings into works, and the empty glasses mean the greedy filled in this world, desire and jealousness so that he tried to yearn for a new modern society. On the other hand, his other objects are moon-jars, Japanese apricot trees, bamboos and beautiful scenic views. He is working on these for his works, but rather we feel Korean feelings from them. It must be people¡¯s deeply nostalgia from artist Lee, Chang-Jo¡¯s paintings. His Japanese apricot trees paintings felt like pedals of making the flower a peaceful state and it was more fantastic as it felt like stars in the far space are leaves of the trees. Artist Lee, Chang-Jo who is always working with the base of paintings by communicating with the audience is. At his late age, he started his second life as a professional job and his works show us sophistication and power of graceful expression. With these, his paintings make us stop and look at his paintings. I thought his passion and efforts are very enough to attract Korean art field¡¯s new attention from now on.
