첼로를 사랑하는 사람들의 이야기

서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블·대구가톨릭대학교 음악대학 송희송 교수

인간에게 음악이라는 장르는 떼려야 뗄 수 없는 동반자와 같다. 어떤 이는 음악으로 마음의 병을 치유받기도 하고 어떤 이는 음악으로 자신의 감정을 나타내며 삶을 완성해나가는 하나의 축을 담당하기도 한다. 세상에는 다양한 음악의 장르가 존재하지만 클래식 음악의 깊이를 알아간다면 더욱 많은 감정들을 느낄 수 있을 것이다. 그중 첼로의 따뜻한 음색은 그야말로 듣는 내내 황홀함에 취하게 될 정도이다. 이처럼 클래식 음악에서도 명품이라 불리는 첼로를 어렵지 않은 익숙한 곡으로 관객들에게 다가가고 있는 이들이 바로 ‘서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블(SSCE)’이다. 음악감독을 맡고 있는 송희송 교수를 필두로 국내 최정상 첼리스트들이 소외계층부터 시작해 다양한 장소에서 품어내는 선율은 관객들의 귀를 즐겁게 하고 있었다.

기적을 연주하는 ‘서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블’

솔리스트로서 이미 뛰어난 기량과 명성을 가진 단원 각자가 함께 모여 앙상블을 이루고, 그 안에서 연주자 개개인의 역량과 개성을 백분 발휘하면서도 모든 구성원이 하나의 조화롭고 아름다운 앙상블을 이루어 나간다는 의미를 두고 있는 ‘서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블’은 한국 첼로계를 이끌어갈 차세대 젊은 첼리스트로 구성되어 첼로음악의 대중화와 전문화를 통해 클래식 음악의 저변 확대를 위해 2006년 창단되었다. 대구가톨릭대학교 음악대학 송희송 교수를 필두로 현재 14명의 정상급 첼리스트 단원들과 산하단체인 서울솔리스트 첼로 소사이어티 단원들이 고아원, 교도소 등 소외계층 순회공연부터 시작해 15회 이상의 정기연주를 이색적인 래퍼토리로 표현해내고 있다. 특히 지난해 6.25사변 일을 맞아 강원도 고성군 통일전망대 특별무대에서 열린 한국전쟁 정전 60주년 기념 콘서트는 한국 전쟁의 아픔과 참전 용사를 기리고, 평화를 염원한 콘서트로 많은 관심을 한 몸에 받기도 했다.  

“어렵게만 느껴졌던 클래식음악을 새로운 각본으로 관객들에게 선보였더니 신선한 반응을 불러온 것 같습니다. 첼로는 저음부터 고음까지 4옥타브를 넘나들 수 있는 악기라 다소 생소하지만 대중적인 선곡으로 인해 많은 분들의 마음속으로 들어갈 수 있었죠.” 이처럼 서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블은 매우 클래식한 연주에서부터 <거위의 꿈>, <아리랑> 등 대중적인 곡들을 선보여 관객과의 소통을 일궈내며 새로운 예술 문화를 일궈내고 있다.  

이들의 음악은 수준 높은 공연으로도 유명하지만 음악으로 정말 아프고 힘든 사람들의 마음을 위로하고 그들에게 희망의 메시지를 전달하기에 더욱 주목받고 있다. 이런 활동들은 이제 음악으로 표현하는 재능기부에서 벗어나 실질적으로 소외계층에게 도움을 줄 수 있는 역할을 자청하고 있다. 그래서 최근 한국심장재단과 후원협약을 맺어 서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블의 후원자들은 동시에 한국심장재단에도 일정 부분이 기부가 되고 있다. 이는 후원하는 이들에게도 특별함을 불어넣어주고 이런 부분들로 인해 더욱 많은 기관이나 단체들에게 좋은 본보기가 될 것으로 생각된다. 또한 올해 서울시 지정 전문예술단체로 선정돼 기부영수증을 발행할 수 있어 더욱 많은 후원활동을 펼칠 수 있을 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.  

각국 대사들과 문화체육관광부의 후원으로 시작되는 해외 공연   

송희송 교수는 서울대 음대를 졸업하고 빈 국립음대를 수석으로 졸업했으며 오스트리아 문화부장관상 수상과 각종 콩쿠르에 입상한 국내 첼로계를 대표하는 중견 첼리스트이다. 서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블의 리더로 활동하고 있는 그는 작년 대구 공연에 이어 최근 광주에서 두 번째<힐링 콘서트> 독주회를 열어 청중들에게 좋은 반응을 불러일으켰다. “최근 세월호 참사로 인해 많은 공연이 연기되거나 취소되었습니다. 그래서 많은 생각을 했지만 저희의 힐링콘서트로 인해 조금이나마 사회에 보탬이 되고자 공연을 개최했고 다행히 많은 분들이 그런 부분들을 이해해주셨기에 잘 마무리했던 것 같습니다.” 이와 같이 서울솔리스트 첼로 앙상블의 공연은 마음의 치유를 통한 소통을 일궈내고 있었다.  

이런 그들에게 반가운 소식이 있다. 그들의 공연을 본 각국 대사들이 공감해 해외에서의 초청공연을 시작하게 된 것. 문화체육관광부의 후원으로 시작하게 될 공연들은 8월 오스트리아와 9월 헝가리에서 선보일 준비를 하고 있다. 

이제 그들이 펼치는 감동의 앙상블은 국내를 넘어 해외로 울려 퍼질 준비를 하고 있었다.  

A story about the people in love of cello

For man, music is a genre for an inseparable life partner. To some, music is a cure of heartache; to others, music acts as an important axis for displaying their emotions and fulfilling their life. There being diverse genres of music, delving into the depth of classical music will lead you to feel even more feelings. Among others, the warm timbre of cello is overwhelming enough to exhilarate the hearer with rapture throughout the play. ‘Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble (SSCE)’ is the one who attempts to approach the audience by means of cello, which is called a luxury art even in classical music, with down-to-earth, familiar tunes. Led by Prof. Song Hee-song in charge of music director, these top cellists in the nation are providing a precious opportunity to enjoy their produced melody for diverse places starting with the alienated class.          

‘Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble,’ a miracle performer

“Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble’ is intended for each member of the group with already excellent talent and fame to exercise each performer’s capability and individuality fully by gathering together and make a beautiful ensemble of harmony. This cellist group composed of next-generation young cellists was founded in 2006 to expand the pool of classical music through population and specialization of cello music. Currently, 14 members of top cellists headed by Prof. Song Hee-song at Music College of Daegu Catholic University and members of its affiliate Seoul Soloist Cello Society have been holding over 15 times of regular performance, starting with a round performance for the alienated such as orphanage, prison, etc., with their unique repertory. Especially, the concert commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Korean War held on a special stage of Tongil Observatory in Gosung-gun, Gangwon-do, received much attention as a concert in their wish for peace by honoring the pain of the War and war veterans. 

“It seems to have aroused a fresh response among the audience that we showed the classical music feeling over their head with a new play. Though cello is a rather unfamiliar instrument capable of four octaves from low-pitched to high-pitched sounds, we were able to succeed in touching the hearts of many people by the selection of widely-known music.” Like this, Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble is contributing to a new art culture by the communication with the audience, showing diverse performances from a very classical music to popular tunes such as <A goose’ dream>, <Arirang>, etc.                

Not only being famous for the high-quality performance but their music is drawing even more attention because it is soothing the pain-writhed and weary people and delivering a message of hope to them. Surmounting the phase of the talent donation expressed by music, such activities are finding its way for the role of practical help to the alienated. By the sponsorship with Korea Heart Foundation recently made, sponsors for Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble are also made for partial donation to Korea Hera Foundation. This is considered to imbue the sponsors with some particularity, which is going to make a good example to more institutions and organizations. Also by being designated by Seoul city for professional art organization this year, this cellist group will be able to engage in sponsorship campaign more actively because this selection allows them to issue donation receipts now.          

Performance overseas starting by the sponsorship of ambassadors to Korea and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism   

Prof. Song is an established cellist representing domestic cello circles. He graduated from Seoul National University Music College and Wien National College of Music as the top student and won prizes from the Austrian Minister of Culture as well as in many competitions. Acting as a leader of Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble, he recently opened his second <Healing Concert> recital, following Daegu performance last year, and received good response from the audience. “Lately, due to the Sewol Ferry mishap, many performances were postponed or cancelled. So it was not sure but we held a performance in order to find an opportunity in contributing to the society with our healing concert. Fortunately, many people understood our purport to help make a good ending.” Like this, the performance of Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble was creating communication through healing people’s heart.

To them, there is good news. Ambassadors of each country who saw their performance were touched enough to start an invitation performance for overseas. These performances to be initiated by the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism are scheduled for August in Austria and September in Hungary. 

Now the group’s emotional ensemble is in preparation to spread overseas across the border.
