Busan Metropolitan City, located on the southeastern coast of Korea, is the largest maritime logistics city in Korea and is recognized by people as the second city after Seoul in its size and history. It served as the temporary capital of the Korean government during the Korean War, and is a particularly developed area for maritime trade and logistics. It is also a cultural city where various cultural events such as the Busan International Film Festival and Busan International Rock Festival are held every year, and it is also a city that shows Korea’s international capabilities, such as the World Cup and Asian Games and the APEC summit.

The Great Transformation of the World, Busan First to the Future

Pray for the 2030 Busan World Expo

Busan Metropolitan City is doing its best to host the 2030 Busan World Expo. Expo is an event that introduces the achievements of human industry and science and technology development and shows off the capabilities of the host country. It is also called the Economic and Cultural Olympics, and 169 member countries gather to decide the host city through voting. Shanghai, which is a port city like Busan and an economic city, held the Expo in 2010 and was recognized for its capabilities as an international city. In the 1970s, Japan held the Expo in Osaka to promote Japan’s international capabilities to the world, and at the same time, it became an opportunity for Japan to become an economic powerhouse.

As such, the EXPO is not only an event to show competence to the international community, but also an opportunity for development to step into the international community. Busan City Mayor Park Heong-joon said “Expo is not a simple event, but a solution. It is a solution for balanced national development and an opportunity to create a new development axis.”

A beautiful road we want to walk together, Busan Galmat-gil

As much as efforts are made to attract international events, Busan is a city of high value as a cultural and tourism city. Galmat-gil is one of the must-visit places in Busan. It is a road only in Busan where a mountain comes out when you walk along the sea road, a river comes out of the mountain, and a hot spring welcomes you when you are tired. It is a road of history, culture, and festivals where you can meet everything from ancient Joseon to modern history, from ancient art to modern art, and from games to modern festivals.
