“Finding and promoting star companies in the southeast of Korea”

The growth of local economy is closely related to the growth national economy as whole. In this respect, providing support to promising regional small and medium businesses is very important. The Southeast Business Growth Support Center in Changwon City has been actively providing ‘the on-site consulting support’ for the businesses in the 5 industrial complexes and the 43 linked complexes in Changwon, Busan, Ulsan, Sacheon and Yangsan. “The center runs various support programs to tackle the difficulties occur during the growth process of the small and medium companies. Some of the key supports include technology transfers, intellectual properties, management and finance provided by the specialists of each field through the on-site and all-in-one services” explained Min Chul-hong, Director of the Southeast Business Growth Support Center. The center pays a visit to each candidate company on a regular basis to draw the status of the company on which the mid and long term roadmap, training plan, management support and policy connections are built and implemented for up to 3 years. “The center is targeting to grow the in-house companies as ‘Cluster Excellence Company’ through the omnidirectional supports while thoroughly analyze the core business areas preferably on win-win basis and share the opinions and visions on the chief manager’s level.” The technology transfer, in particular, is done by building a network with the public TLO organizations and private technology transfer agents. Also, the IP-R&D Intellectual Property Project is playing the role to maximize the in-house company’s competitiveness and growth potential. The center actually fostered 4 in-house companies in relation to the intellectual property project in 2016. In addition, the center’s Smart Factory Innovation Project is offering an ICT-driven integrated planning, distribution and selling platform which is making a great contribution to improving productivity, energy efficiency and quality of the products. Thanks to this comprehensive support system of the center, the in-house airplane door system company SAMCO succeeded drawing a contract worth USD$95 million with Airbus Helicopter, Germany in 2015. SAMCO also drew a contract with a yacht producer Bando Marine and singed a MOU with the Korea Maritime Business Association last year. The biggest achievement, however, might be that the in-house airplane structure company YULKOK drew a KRW 117 billion won contract from an American airline. Some of the well performing in-house companies to name a few more are Najai, Ducksung Metal, Bukuk Precision Industries, Ed-Tech, Yunam Tech, WIDIN, TIC, Kyunghan Korea, Daeshin Metal and Hyundai Technology Machinery. “The growth rate of the well performing SMEs is 2.5 times more than the normal companies which are 14.5% high and the employment growth rate also records 26.2%. The center will keep doing its best to find and promote promising local SMEs.”
