Reception on the occasion of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria

The Bulgarian Embassy to Seoul held Reception on the occasion of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria on March 5 at Grand Hayatt Seoul. Foreign Minister Spokesperson Noh Kyu-duk and the Korea Party law maker Hong Moon-pyo and fellow foreign ambassadors and diplomatic missions attended the ceremony to celebrate the occasion on the day. A choir consisted of both Bulgarian and Korean men and women took the podium first to sing the National Anthem of Bulgaria followed by the National Anthem of Korea before H.E. Petar Andonov Ambassador of Bulgaria gave his welcome remarks. The ambassador said that the National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria celebrates the March 3, 1878 on which Bulgaria became independent from almost 500 years of the rule by the Ottoman Empire and reappeared on the European map as an independent nation. After 129 years, Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007 and chaired the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the first time from March 2018 until June 30 the same year (It rotates among the member states of the EU every six months.). Andonov mentioned that Korea and the two countries were actively exchanging political dialogues and as part of this effort the delegates of Bulgarian National Assembly visited Korea in August 2017 and the Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon paid a visit to Bulgaria in October the same year in response. Lee and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov opened a new chapter for ‘Comprehensive and Future Oriented Partnership’. Andonov then emphasized on the cooperation in the car and IT industry between the two countries and closed his remarks by congratulating the successfully holding of the PyeongChange 2018. The welcome remarks were followed by the congratulatory speech by Foreign Minister Spokesperson Noh Kyu-duk. Noh opened that Bulgaria was famous for longevity and healthy food culture to many Koreans and the Bulgarian yogurts were soon to be sold in the Korean market. He then emphasized on the dialogue between the two ministers on the cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defense and agriculture and congratulated the two country’s raised diplomatic relations to ‘Comprehensive and Future Oriented Partnership’. Noh also praised the Cyrillic alphabet of Bulgaria which contributed to the development of literacy and knowledge in the Balkan Peninsula as well as the high cultural spirit of the people. He closed his speech by congratulating the Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. H.E. Petar Andonov then presented a certification of appreciation to Kim Hi-yong, Honory Consul General of Bulgaria in Seoul for his hard work and contribution. The ceremony then was closed with a special performance by Camarata Music Company’s Chamber Singers.
