Moon has summit with Xi in China
President Moon had a summit with XI Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, at the Great Hall of the People on 14 last month. The two leaders agreed on the 4 principles. 1) No war on the Korean Peninsula 2) No nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula 3) Peaceful solution for North nuclear issues through dialogue and negotiation 4) Improvement in South-North relations ultimately helps settle down the Korean Peninsula issues. They also agreed to build ‘hot line’ for close and continuous communications while expanding the cooperation to politics, diplomacy, security and political parties over the existing economic and social, cultural and private exchanges. Moon suggested activation of trilateral cooperation between Korea, China and Japan and the two leaders shared the same opinion to draw the North to the dialogue table through sanctions and pressure agreed by the UN. Meanwhile, Xi reaffirmed the China’s stance on the THADD and asked S. Korea to deal with the issues with due respect. Xi said “It takes time to recover from the despair but I think the two countries are working it out in speed” and Moon said “It is important to move forward for development based on mutual respect.” They agreed on the resume of the stopped cooperation for industrial complexes and economic cooperation fund and on the expansion of investment and the follow-up negotiation for Korea-China FTA in the service and investment sectors. Also, they exchanged the same opinions on pushing forward cooperation for the 4th Industrial Revolution (big data, AI, 5G, drone and electric vehicle) while strengthening the cooperation in medicine, education, science, renewable energy, local government and lowering the fine dust level. Moon then invited Xi to the PyeongChang 2018 and Xi said he would try but send a delegate of high officials in case he could not make it.

Moon attends Korea-China Business Roundtable and Forum
President Moon attended the Korea-China Business Roundtable and Forum held in Beijing on 13 last month. He said “Korea and China are in the same boat to pioneer the ways for prosperity. And we can achieve it by close cooperation with the same mind. Like the Korean proverb saying ‘after a storm comes a calm’, the visit this time will be an opportunity for the two countries to reaffirm the friendship and trust and to upgrade the level of cooperation in all sectors.” Moon then suggested 3 economic cooperation directions 1) strengthening systematic foundation 2) future-oriented 3) people-centered. Moon also suggested 8 detailed plans for cooperation including quality growth through digital trade, startup support for the 4th Industrial Revolution, energy and environment cooperation, joint venture for the developing countries and non-governmental exchanges. Zhang Gaoli, Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China, said “We are strongly against protectionism but promote open and fair opportunities for both home and foreign businesses and legally protect the properties and assets of investors.” At the roundtable, the businessmen of both countries gathered their opinions to work together to open a new chapter for Korea-China cooperation relations on the occasion of the Moon’s state visit.
