Best restaurants found at Dongmyeong-dong, Dong District in Gwangju

If the so called Baek Jong Won Street in Nonhyeon-dong, Jang Jin Woo Street in Gyeongnidan-gil and Hong Seok Cheon Street in Itaewon are famous restaurants in Seoul, Songmyeonggwan, Jejudang, Sebyeokdal, and Bat Trang of Sowooju on the so called ‘Dongridan-gil’ in Gwangju City received the same credit as such. Dongmyeong in Gwang has long been famous for fancy cafes, book stores and a variety of eateries. CEO Jo Han-woo of Sowooju ran a famous meat restaurant in Gwanju for 7 years before opening Dongmyeonggwan, a Japanese homemade food bar, in 2015. Within short period of time, the bar attracted a great number of dinners with clean taste of the food and neat interior. After the renewal of the menus last June alongside voluntary review of the dinners on SNS, people now have to wait at least 30~40 minutes to have a seat. Continuing the momentum, CEO Jo pushed forward his ideas by opening a number of new restaurants: ‘Jejudang’ with Jeju Island-inspired night noodle and stew, ‘Sebyeokdal’ with Chinese-inspired menues and ‘Bat Trang’ with Koreanized Vietnamese menus. They are all located within 300~400 diameters each other. You might feel like you are on Jeju Island or in China or in Vietnam due to its interiors. “To be honest, I would like to give more emphasis on ambience than to be called as the best restaurants because I have given more efforts in personality” said Jo. Last year, Jo established Sowooju as the headquarters of the four restaurants to effectively manage the business. Meanwhile, Jo has been donating 1 ton of rice to the Gwangju Talent Donation Center for two years in a row and said that he would keep engaging himself in social contribution activities.
