Suwon forms a Task Force of Inter-Korea Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Council

The Suwon Inter-Korea Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Council formed a Task Force to launch South-North exchange project in earnest. Mayor Yeom Tae-young and the members of the council held the 2nd general meeting on 17 last month at Suwon City Hall and discussed on how to operate the Task Force. 

The city’s planning division head Hong Sa-jun and the secretary of the council serve as the co-directors of the Task Force which will focus on public awareness of the unification, humanitarian support, culture/art/sports exchange, and public health. The Task Force is consisted of 10 members and the secretary general is scheduled to be elected late August this year. It is the members’ role to bring up mid and long term roadmaps and to implement the decisions. 

Suwon City also newly appointed 8 specialists of exchange, culture, women and youth as members of the council (total 22 members). The council was launched last January and held a forum for preparation of inter-Korea exchange in May. 

Mayor Yeom Tae-young said “The council should actively invite citizens to find together the exchange ideas and projects and I believe that this of our effort will pave the way to the eventual national unification in the future.”

Suwon scores 8 out of 10 in civil complaint process

Suwon city carried out a survey for 1,368 civil complainers and showed the result with general satisfaction scores of 8.05 on civil complaint process, a 0.15 increase on the first quarter (7.9). 

Below is the breakdown:
8.4 on speed, 8.2 on fairness (0.2 up), 8.0 on satisfaction, 7.6 on transparency (0.4 up). 
Below is the percentage in order:
Speed 82.5%, fairness 81.2%, satisfaction 78%, transparency 72.1%. 
On the question whether public servants of the city are transparent, 40% said very so, 32% yes, 21% so so and 5% no. 

Kim Gyo-sun, the city’s auditor who carried out the survey said “The result shows that there needs to be improvements on fairness and transparency. And I ask citizens to report any malpractice of the public servants to the Public Officials Corruption Report Center.” 

Suwon City has been running a number of corruption prevention programs and won the grand prize at the 2017 Gyeonggido Public Servant Transparency Awards and was designated as an excellent local government of civil complaint process by the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission in 2016. The city also won the excellent organization title at the anti-corruption policy appraisal carried out by the same commission for 3 years in a row.
