미래부 최양희 장관, 과학 및 ICT 정책현장방문 실시
미래창조과학부 최양희 장관은 지난 달 11일 LG유플러스 자회사인 “(주)데이콤크로싱”이 운영하고 있는 국제 해저케이블 육양국을 방문하여 시설 관리현황을 점검하고 관계자들의 노고를 격려하였다. 이번 방문은 일본, 대만 등 인접 국가들이 지진으로 인한 광케이블 사고가 빈번하고 최근 한반도에도 잦은 지진이 발생하고 있어, 해저케이블의 장애 대응에 대한 취약한 부분이 있는지 살펴보고 기업 현장의 의견을 청취하는 등 국가통신망 시설안전 및 운영현황 파악을 위한 현장행보의 일환으로 진행되었다. 최양희 미래부 장관은 현장에서 국제 해저케이블 육양국 운영현황 및 육양국 운영의 애로사항 등을 청취한 후 육양국사와 전송장비, 급속장치 등 해저 통신망 장비를 둘러보았다. 최양희 장관은 “해저케이블의 경우 국제통신을 위한 가장 핵심적인 통신망으로, 해저케이블에 의한 장애가 없도록 관리‧운영하는 것이 무엇보다도 중요하다”고 강조하며, 특히 “장애발생 시 국민이 불편이 없도록 신속히 대응해 줄 것을 요청하는 한편, 해외사업자와도 긴밀한 협력을 통해 원활한 트래픽을 처리할 수 있도록 노력해 달라”고 당부하였다. 아울러, 최양희 장관은 이날 해저케이블 현장점검에 앞서 서부발전이 운영하고 있는 태안 수상태양광 발전시설 현장을 방문하여 다양한 형태의 태양광 확산을 위한 기술개발에 대한 현장의견도 청취하였다. 최근 파리 기후협정 발효(‘16.11)로 온실가스 감축기술에 대한 관심이 증가한 가운데, 태안 수상태양광은 특히 염도가 높은 해수환경에 적용하고 있어 향후 태양광 발전시설의 해양으로의 확산에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 미래부는 태양광 관련, 차세대 태양전지 기초원천기술개발을 추진하고 있으며, 산업계로의 적용이 용이하도록 태양광 분야 핵심 요소기술을 패키지화하여 건물 외벽‧지붕‧창호 등에 적용하는 건물 맞춤형 모델과 자동차 선루프 등에 적용하는 이동기기용 산업육성모델을 발굴‧추진 중이다. 최양희 장관은 “파리 기후협정 발효와 함께 신 기후체제가 출범하게 된 바, 태양광 기술 개발과 발전시설 설치도 급속도로 증가하게 될 것”으로 예상하며, “태양광도 고효율화 저가격화와 같은 기술 도약도 중요하지만, 더불어 여러 가지 기술을 접목하여 해수 수상태양광과 같은 다양한 유형에 적용하고 그 저변을 확대하는 것도 필요하다”고 강조하였다.

최양희 미래부 장관 소프트웨어(SW)교육 심화연수 현장 방문
최양희 미래창조과학부 장관은 지난 달 17일에 소프트웨어(SW)교육 담당교원 심화연수 현장인 경기대학교(수원캠퍼스)를 방문하여 교사들의 재교육 과정을 직접 살펴보고, 대화의 시간을 통해 교사들을 격려하고 의견을 청취하였다. 이번 연수과정은 내년 중학교부터 단계적으로 적용 예정인 SW교육 필수화 준비의 일환으로, 미래부가 주최하고 한국과학창의재단(이사장 박태현)이 주관하였으며, 교사 791명(초등486명, 중등305명)을 대상으로 1월 16일부터 17일까지 1박2일간 학교 현장에서 활용할 수 있는 총 32개의 실습 중심 워크숍으로 구성되었다. 최양희 미래부 장관은 우선 중등 교사 40명을 대상으로 ‘컴퓨팅 사고력 기반 알고리즘 설계 및 문제해결의 실제’ 강의 현장에 직접 참여하여 교사들의 재교육 과정을 살펴보았으며, 강의 참관 후에는 초중등 SW교육 담당교원(초등 5명, 중등 5명)과의 간담회를 통해 SW교육의 발전방안과 학교 현장의 애로사항 등에 대해 의견을 나누었다. 최양희 미래부 장관은 어려운 환경 속에서도 SW교육 발전을 위해 노력중인 선생님들의 노고에 감사를 표하면서, “SW교육 필수화가 얼마 남지 않은 만큼, 차질 없는 준비가 될 수 있도록 교육부 및 시·도교육청과 협력을 강화하고, 학교 현장과 더욱 소통하도록 하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Choi visits international submarine cable telecommunication office
Choi Yang-hee, Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning, visited the international submarine cable telecommunication office run by DACOM Crossing, an affiliate of LG U+, on 11 last month to check the system and to encourage the staff. The visit was to make sure of its continuous operation as earthquake around the Korean peninsular including Japan and Taiwan is more frequent recently and it might affect the submarine cables badly. Choi toured the operation systems and facilities and listened attentively to their difficulties. He said "Stability of submarine cables is vital for international communication and I ask you to promptly response when emergency situations occur through close cooperation." Prior to the visit to the office, Choi paid a visit to Taean Water Sunlight Generation System run by Korea Western Power and listened to visions of the system from the staff. The system is expected to expand its scope to the ocean in accordance with Paris Climate Agreement that is to reduce green house gases. The ministry is carrying out development of original technology of next generation solar energy and is planning to make it into a package to apply on outer surface of buildings as well as on the sunroof of vehicles. Choi said "We are expecting that there will be a great demand of solar energy in near future and we will be working on development of related devices and facilities that can be provided cost effectively." 

Choi visits Kyonggi University Suwon Campus
Choi Yang-hee, Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning, paid a visit to Kyonggi University Suwon Campus on 17 last month. The campus is the hub of software training and Choi toured the process of retraining of teachers and listened to their opinions and gave encouragement. The training is to prepare teachers for impending application of SW education in schools and it was hosted by the ministry and managed by Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity. 791 teachers (486 from elementary schools, 305 from middle) participated in 32 training of 2 days and 1 night from 16 January. Choi himself attended, alongside 40 teachers, 'Computer Intelligence-Based Algorithm Planning and Problem Solution' and discussed about the course in-depth with 10 teachers (5 elementary, 5 middle). Choi showed his gratitude to the participant teachers after the training and asked both teachers and officials of related organizations a close cooperation."
