In this era when technology means national competitiveness so many countries are devoting themselves to developing technology, training engineers and technicians and cultivating able persons. Pyeongtaek Dongil Technical High School is making efforts to rear creative persons in engineering and technology who will lead the future of ‘Technology Powerhouse Korea’ through systematic and characteristic diverse training programs.

Rearing professional talents in automobile and IT

Founded in 1978, Dongil Technical High has been devoted to rearing technical talents who can contribute to development of the community as a leading part of future technology powerhouse of Korea. Especially accepting the recent diversity of the rapidly changing educational environment, the school is administering diverse featured projects, educational and employment-support programs with the strength as integrated high school. Principal Chung Gi-hak said, “We are making efforts to rear moral and healthy skilled technical manpower based on moral character education. We aim to establish a healthy culture of educational community and heighten professionalism of the members to provide a better education, giving our best to make a clean, beautiful school that can be relied on by the community.”

Dongil Technical High is made up of five departments – digital electronic control, computer media security, geo-spatial design, auto air-conditioning system control and automobile. While digital electronic control is focusing on rearing skilled technical hands with combined expertise and practice in electronic circuit, computer programing and micro-controller, computer media security is operating the curriculum using high-tech equipment and facilities with a vew to rear specialists in computer system, media contents and information security. Geo-spatial design is fostering specialists in diverse fields from social infrastructure of bridge, road, harbor, railroad, etc. to residential land, industrial base and space developments. Auto air-conditioning system is aiming at rearing multi-engineers in the fields of auto facilities to increase energy efficiency and eco-friendly auto air-conditioning system control.

And automobile department provides education of theory over automobiles and practice using rich practice automobiles and up-to-date equipment and delivers understanding of structure, how it works and new technology theory for future-oriented professional experts. As a result, this automobile department has been reaping an excellent record in the nationwide and Gyeonggido-wise contests for vehicle inspection annually from 2010 to 2015.

Embodying integrated educational community

Dongil Technical High is also carrying on with diverse featured projects through partnership with related institutions. First, ‘Do Dream’ work provides circumstances in which students with ADHD and emotional-bahavioral disorders and multicultural and North-defector family students can open their hearts and bring their dream and talents to fruition.

Principal Chung clarified, “Do Dream project selects students regardless of school records because we see that ‘doing poorly’ means ‘having infinite possibility to do well.’”

‘Biz Cool’ is another featured project of Dongil, which is a startup education program to nurse the students’ startup mindset. This project supported by Small Business Administration aims to enhance the students’ NCS occupational basic abilities and job skills at the site through startup club activity and increase the understanding of entrepeneur, enterprise, startup and business adminstration. Besides, the school is seeking to enhance the students’ humanistic creativity through ‘Good Morning Junior Creative School’ going on in connection to Gyeonggi Content Agency, Pyeongtaek city and Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education endeavoring to develop specialized content program and rear customized professional manpower in the related fields.

Substantial Employment capability program

Principal Chung Gi-hak explained, “Our school is making multifaceted attempts to find good-quality workplace and strengthen each student’s capability for career and employment. We are helping them obtain national and international certificate of qualifications by operating systematic after-school programs and specialty club classes and strengthen job-site experience activity and practical capability through signing MOU with related companies. We are also carrying out systematic and diversified employment capability projects operating ‘Up program’ that can strengthen career capability by grade and step and ‘Wide program’ that can expand the base of hobbies, specialty and aptitude.”

As a result of such efforts Dongil technical High was selected as employment function excellent school by the Ministry of Education for 4 years straight since 2010, as auto-IT Integrated High in 2011 and as leading work experience school in 2012. With prominent improvement in quality of employment, a considerable number of graduates are achieving the result of getting jobs with the government office, public enterprise, large enterprise and large bank, etc. Principal Chung clarified, “Pyeongtaek is greatly receiving attention as central axis of the upcoming West Coast era.
