공중파와 케이블 등에서 재치와 끼를 뽐내는 셰프들의 활약으로 최근 방송가에는 ‘요리’가 화제를 모으고 있다. JTBC '냉장고를 부탁해', 올리브 TV '마스터 셰프 코리아' 등에서 방송계의 대세로 자리 잡은 것이다. 이럴 때일수록 요리에 관해 명품 교육을 실천하는 교육기관의 존재가 더욱 주목받게 된다. 경기도 시흥에 위치한 한국조리과학고등학교는 1999년 개교한 조리 분야 한국 최초의 특성화 고등학교로, 국내외 외식산업계를 책임지는 대표 교육기관으로 자리하고 있다.

(주)효성, (주)CJ푸드빌 등 47개 기업과 산학협력 체결해
러시아 카자흐스탄 시찰단, 일본 전문학교 시찰단 등 해외에서도 주목
조리 분야 한국 최초의 특성화 고등학교 한국조리과학고등학교는 전문 조리기술 향상을 위해 분야별 수준 높은 실습을 통해 교육의 전문성을 실현하며 최신의 기자재를 도입하고 교육 인프라를 확대하여 학생들에게 다양한 학습의 기회를 제공하고 있다. 또한 진학, 취업, 유학 등 3개 분야로 학생들의 진로를 위한 교육과정을 편성하고 있다. 취업을 위한 현장맞춤조리실습 및 조리특성화 실습을 위한 전문교과도 전체 180단위 중 86단위를 운영한다.

졸업생들은 특히 젊은 셰프로서 뛰어난 활동을 보이고 있다. 미슐랭 3스타 장조지 셰프가 상하이에 오픈한 한식당 CHI-Q에는 2기 유빛나 졸업생이 책임셰프로 있으며, 젊은이들 사이에 핫 플레이스로 유명한 더블트러블, 도넛가이즈를 창업한 3기 한경수 졸업생과 올리브TV에서 활약하는 3기 졸업생 남성렬 셰프도 유명하다.

한국조리과학고등학교는 미국 존슨앤웰즈대학, 국내 원광디지털대학교 등 외국 대학 및 외식 기업 간 MOU를 체결하고 학술 및 인적교류 확대 및 식품조리 분야 세미나 등 다양한 부문에서 협력을 이어가고 있다. 현재 산학협력협약 기업은 수도권 46개, 제주 1개로 (주)잡모아, (주)한솥, (주)제주해비치호텔앤드리조트(4명 취업), The-K호텔 서울(4명 취업), (주)효성 외식사업부(12명 취업), (주)CJ푸드빌(16명 취업) 등이다. 또한 지난 4월 러시아 카자흐스탄 고등직업학교 시찰단, 일본 츠지조리전문학교 시찰단 등이 한국조리과학고등학교를 주목해 국내를 대표하는 특성화 고등학교로서의 입지를 다지고 있다.

‘미소밥차’ 조리봉사, TOC(Taste of Corea) 동아리 등 다양한 활동 함께해
한국조리과학고등학교는 전국대회 규모의 요리경연대회에서 다수 입상하는 등 두각을 나타내고 있다. 5월 말 개최된 2015 국제요리경연대회에서 금상 3개, 은상 15개, 동상 12개, 4월 말 개최된 제8회 우리먹거리 요리경연축제에서 최우수상과 장려상 각각 1팀, 4월 초 개최된 경기도기능경기대회에서 동상 1개, 우수상 2개 등 많은 실적을 낸 바 있다.
학교는 또한 시흥시 기반의 조리봉사 프로그램 미소밥차를 통해 지역사회와의 유대감을 형성하는 재능기부의 교육적 모델을 만들어가고 있으며, 한국의 새로운 맛과 멋을 통해 한식의 세계화를 꿈꾸는 43명의 학생들로 구성된 동아리 TOC(Taste of Corea)도 이태원 등지에서 한식 체험활동과 캠페인을 전개하고 문화와 전통 등 한국의 매력을 알리고 있다.

Winning 30 prizes at 2015 International Culinary Competition

Korea Culinary Arts Science High School is the first specialized high school in the field facilitated with the latest kitchen utensils. With its excellent curriculum both in theory and practice, the school provides three specialized career paths: moving to higher education, employment and studying abroad. Among 180 units of subjects, 86 units are related to field cooking curriculum. 

The school is very famous as numerous graduated students are already proving their talent in the culinary world. Yu Bit-na (2nd graduate) is working as a chef in charge at a Korean restaurant CHI-Q in Shanghai opened by chef Jang Jo-ji (3 star Michelin) while Han -Gyeong-su (3rd graduate) established Double Trouble, Doughnut Guys which is one of hot places to eat among young people and Nam Sung-ryeol (3rd graduate) is being active at Olive TV.

Meanwhile, the school signed a MOU with Johnson & Wales University (US) and Wonkwang Digital University to cooperate in various fields such as academic and manpower exchange and academic conference. The school is also working in cooperation with 46 companies in the capital and 1 company in Jeju Island including JobmoA, Hansot, Haevichi Hotel & Resort Jeju (4 employment), The-K Hotel Seoul (4 employment), Hyosung Restaurant Division (12 employment) and CJ Foodville (16 employment). In addition, the school was visited by specialized high school tour groups from Russia, Kazakhstan and Japan (specialized in cheese).

Korea Culinary Arts Science High School has won numerous prizes including 3 golds, 15 silvers and 12 bronzes at 2015 International Culinary Competition held in last May, 1 grand prize and 1 participation prize at The 8th Korean Cuisine Competition and 2 runner up prizes and 1 bronze at Gyeonggido Skills Competition last April. Also, various clubs are actively participating in social services. Smile Rice Cart, for example, is providing free cooking services in Siheung City while Taste of Corea, consisting of 43 students, is carrying out Korean Food Experience Campaign in Itaewon where you can meet people from many countries. 

Alongside providing the best curriculum in culinary theory and practice, Korea Culinary Arts Science High School equips students with excellent customer service skills and global mind so that they can lead the food industry in Korea.
