“글로벌 인재양성, 교육의 메커니즘 달성을 위해 힘쓰다”

교육학 박사 이인근 이사장이 설립한 학교재단 청원학원은 청원학원, 청원유치원, 청원초등학교, 청원중학교, 청원여자고등학교, 청원고등학교와 재단이 모두 한 자리에 위치해 있는 지역 내 명실공한 사립명문학원이다. 불굴의 근면성을 가지고 사회, 국가 인류에 이바지하는 지성인을 육성하고자 불철주야 힘쓰고 있는 윤호섭 교장은 선대 교장들의 유지를 받들어 청원학원을 ‘태산과 같은 인격과 바다와 같은 지식을 갖춘 인재를 육성(育成)한다’는 ‘인산지해(人山知海)’의 교육지표 아래 ‘즐거운 학원, 정돈된 학원, 번영된 학원, 단결된 학원’이라는 비전을 제시하고 있었다.

명문 교육의 산실, 청원학원
청원재단은 1952년, 고려영수학관의 인가를 받고 1958년 동대문구 용두동에 제1신축교사를 준공한 이후, 학칙 변경을 통해 성동상업고등학교와 고흥중학교의 교명을 동대문상업고등학교, 동대문중학교로 변경했다. 또한 학급증설과 개교를 거듭하며 현재의 명문교육재단으로 발돋움했으며 1988년에는 현 위치(서울 노원구 한글비석길 452번지)로 학교를 이전하며 굴지의 교육재단으로 성장하는 초석을 다졌다.
지난 2005년 설립자 이인근 박사가 ‘국민훈장 모란장’을 수상하는 쾌거를 이뤄냈고 ‘2008년 대한민국 경영혁신 대상’을 수상하는 영예를 안으며 명문학원으로서의 기틀을 다지기도 했다. 1988년 개교한 청원고등학교의 모태는 고흥상업고등학교다. 윤호섭 교장은 진정한 명문 인문고로서의 탈바꿈을 자처하며 지난해까지 명문대 진학률을 상위권으로 끌어올리며 다시 한 번 청원의 저력을 보여줬다. 그는 급변하는 시대흐름을 간파. 세계화, 정보화를 주도할 수 있는 인재를 양성하기 위해서는 기존의 교육의 틀을 벗어나는 발상의 전환이 필요하다고 역설한다.
이를 위해 학생과 교사 그리고 교육환경의 변화가 시급하다고 지적한 그는 첫째, 학교를 수요자 중심의 교육체제로 전환해 학생들이 지식 기반 사회에서 기본적으로 요구되는 능력을 기를 수 있도록 교육하며 둘째, 교사들이 전문성을 갖추고 학생들에게 존경받을 수 있는 인격함양에 애쓰며 민주적 의사결정이 가능한 면학 분위기 조성을 마련하겠다고 밝혔다. 또한 학생과 교사들이 쾌적한 환경 속에서 공부하고 연구할 수 있도록 아름답고 깨끗한 교육환경을 조성하기 위해 인적·물적 지원을 아낌없이 투자하겠다고 강조했다.
Cheongwon Academy, the cradle of top quality education
The Cheongwon Foundation constructed the first school in 1958 in Yongdu-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, by getting permission from the Goryeo Leader Academy in 1952 and then changed their school regulation to change the names of the Seongdong Commercial High School and Goheung Middle School into Dongdaemun Commercial High School and Dongdaemun Middle School. The foundation then constructed additional classrooms and opened new schools to rise as a top quality educational foundation today. In 1988, they moved the schools to the current location (#452, Hangeul Headstone Road, Nowon-gu, Seoul) to provide the basis to grow as a leading educational foundation.
In 2005, the founder Doctor In-geun Lee cherished the honor of being awarded the “Order of Civil Merit, Peony Medal” and the “2008 Management Innovation Grand Prize of the Republic of Korea” providing the framework to rise as a top class academy. The matrix of Cheongwon High School opened in 1988 is Goheung Commercial High School. Principal Yoon worked to change the commercial high school into a truly top quality liberal arts high school and raised last year the entry rate of its students into top universities to a high rank showing once again the power of Cheongwon. To foster talents who can see through the rapidly changing era’s trends and lead globalization and informatization, he claimed it is necessary to change and leave the existing educational framework.
For this, he pointed out it was imperative to change the learning environment, the students and teachers. First, he changed the school into a demand-driven educational system and educated the students to be equipped with the basic abilities demanded by a knowledge-based society. Second, he worked hard to equip teachers with expertise and good personalities respectable by students and created an academic atmosphere with possible democratic decision-making. In addition, he did not hesitate to invest human and physical resources to create a beautiful and clean learning environment so that both students and teachers may study and research in a pleasant environment.
글로벌 교육을 실현하다
공교육 부실화가 사회적 문제로 대두되고 있는 요즘, 윤호섭 교장은 성적 우수학생과 부진학생 모두를 배려하는 내실 있는 교과지도로 사교육 없는 학교를 만들기 위해 다방면으로 애쓰고 있다. 정규 수업시간 외에도 연중 쉬지 않는 방과 후 수업(선택), 상위권 학생들을 위한 심화반 수업, 대학별 고사에 대비한 논술 수업 등을 시행하고 있는 것이 바로 그것. 특히 정독실은 자기주도 학습 공간으로서 학년별 좌석 배분으로 면학분위기를 조성, 연중무휴로 운영되고 있으며 밤 12시까지 학생들이 편안하게 공부할 수 있도록 편의를 도모하고 있다. 또한 전자카드 시스템 도입으로 학생들의 입·퇴실이 문자서비스로 학부모에게 전달돼 안심하고 자녀들을 학교에 보낼 수 있도록 돕고 있으며 학생들의 안전한 귀가를 위해 스쿨버스를 무료로 운행하고 있기도 하다.
입학사정관제, 특기자 전형 확대에 발맞춰 대입 전형방식에 맞는 학교, 학생 프로파일 작성체제를 제시하고 있는 청원고등학교는 이를 통해 학생이 본인에게 맞는 대학, 학과에 진학하는 데 도움을 얻을 수 있도록 데이터베이스를 구축, 청원만의 대입전략을 수립하고 이를 담임교사 및 교과 담당 교사에게 제공하고 있다. 이 외에도 자기주도 학습 플래너 책자를 활용, 학생들이 취약과목의 성적을 향상시킬 수 있도록 담당 교사와의 연계를 통해 학습방법을 개선할 수 있도록 돕고 있다. 또 청원고등학교의 자랑, 그랜드 카페테리아는 43억 원을 투자해 전교생의 식사문제를 해결하고 호텔식 수준의 정갈한 식사를 즐길 수 있도록 해 타 학교의 벤치마킹되기도 했다.
Realize global education
As poor public education is becoming a social problem, Yoon is working hard multifariously to create a school not necessitating private tutoring by having teachers teach each subject considering both outstanding students and lagging students. In addition to the regular class hours, he provides after-school classes throughout the year (selective), intensive classes for top ranking students, and essay writing classes to prepare students for each university’s exams. In particular, the library is provided as a space for self-led learning with seats allocated to each grade to create a learning environment. It is managed year round and open until 12 a.m. so that students may comfortably study until late. Also, the school introduced an electronic card system to have the entry and exit of students conveyed to parents into text messages for parents to rest secure about their children’s safety. The school also runs school buses to safely drive students back home.
In line with the introduction of the admission officers system and expanded admission of talented people, Yoon is creating a school to help students get admission to universities and proposed a student profile writing system. Cheongwon High School has built a database to help students enter universities and departments befitting them and drawn up a unique university admission strategy for homeroom teachers and subject teachers to use. In addition, the school is helping students use a self-led learning planner book to improve their grades in subjects they are weak at by linking them with responsible teachers in order to improve their learning method. In addition, the Grand Cafeteria, Cheongwon High School’s pride, was built by investing KRW 4.3 billion so that all students may be provided with healthy meals of hotel class. It was even benchmarked by other schools.
오롯이 참교육 실현을 위해 헌신했던 40여년
‘항상 배우는 자세로 겸손하게 살자’. 40여년을 교직에 몸담았던 윤호섭 교장은 교육자이기 이전에 어른으로서 자라나는 학생들이 바른 인성과 지성을 겸비할 수 있도록 조언을 아끼지 않는다. 교장실의 문턱을 낮추어 학부모와 학생이 언제든 찾아와 고민을 상담하고, 학교의 문제점과 개선방향에 대해서 같이 의논하며 설명회와 간담회를 통해 즉시 해결할 수 있도록 한 것은 그의 탈권위적인 모습을 단적으로 보여준다.
윤 교장의 학생들을 향한 사랑과 교육에 대한 뜨거운 열정은 여전히 현재진행형이다. 그는 앞으로도 교사와 학생, 학부모가 함께하는 청원을 만들기 위해 노력을 게을리 하지 않겠다고 밝혔다. 청원고등학교 학생들이 자랑스러운 청원인으로서 사회의 귀감이 되고 영향력 있는 인재로 성장해 더 나아가 국가 발전에 이바지할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.
Devoted 40 years only for true education
“Always live humbly as if learning.” Yoon, who has worked in education for about 40 years, does not refrain from giving advice as an adult so that students may grow up with both a proper personality and knowledge. He has made it easier for both parents and students to seek him for consultation and to discuss problems at school and measures to improve them. He holds briefings and open meetings to immediately solve problems based on his non-authoritative attitude.
Yoon’s love for students and passion for education is still ongoing. He said he would continue to work hard to create Cheongwon into a school where teachers, students and parents work together. Let us hold high hopes for graduates of Cheongwon High School to grow into influential exemplary talents of society to contribute to the development of the country.
