Many problems arise because the law hasn’t kept up with technological advances. Inventions are regulated because they don’t fit into existing laws, stifling innovation and making us less competitive in the global marketplace. To combat this problem, in 2016, the UK created a regulatory sandbox to allow new technologies to be tested in a rational way, and it is now operating in more than 60 countries, including Korea, with positive effects. Formed by the merger of law firms Class and Hankyul, Class Hankyul provides legal services related to corporate transactions, M&A, labor, and finance. The law firm also has specialized research departments to provide clients with a full range of legal services on issues that arise. 

Former court and prosecutor chiefs as staff members

Class has had experts who have served as court presidents and prosecutors. They are senior attorney Nam, who served as chief judge of the Supreme Court’s trial research department, representative attorney Hwang Chan-hyeon, a former chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, advisor Lee Kang-guk, who served as a Supreme Court Justice and President of the Constitutional Court, and attorney Lee Gyeong-chun, who served as the first Chief Justice of the Rehabilitation Court. In particular, it has been attracting attention recently as former Supreme Court Chief Justice Yang Seung-tae and Gwangju High Court Chief Justice Choi Sang-ryeol decided to join. Hankyul, on the other hand, has been active in the fields of corporate mergers and acquisitions, construction, labor, and finance for more than 25 years and has not only Korean attorneys but also foreign attorneys as staff members.

Regulatory sandbox

Class Hankyul is paying attention to regulatory sandbox. The firm provides help through regulatory sandbox to bring to market various industries and products that have achieved innovation but cannot be released due to institutional issues. To this end, the firm provides analysis of domestic laws as well as foreign cases and examples. 

Corporate social responsibility

Senior attorney Nam is engaged in volunteer work and nature conservation activities as the Chairman of the Korea Volunteer Forum and the Legal Advisory Committee Chair of the Future Strategy Special Committee of the Korea Constitutional Council. In February 2024, Class Hankyul donated 10 million won in project funds to Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital for children with developmental delays.
