Virtual reality content and simulations are being used in various industries. In particular, in education, virtual reality is very effective in experiencing difficult practice and training in advance, so its scope of application is gradually expanding.

As VR equipment and technology become more sophisticated, realistic simulations become possible. It has the advantage of being able to replace actual equipment because it allows repeated practice and experience in operating expensive equipment or difficult environments beforehand.

IDC, a global market research company, estimated the global VR/AR market size at $13.8 billion (KRW 17.9 trillion) last year and expected it to grow to $50.9 billion (KRW 66 trillion) in 2026.

Yellow Box (CEO Yoonsoo Jang) is attracting attention by developing ‘VR powered boat steering simulation’ and ‘VR drone forest fire suppression control simulation’ based on its differentiated technology.

VR powered boat steering simulation

Yellow Box, located in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, is a two-year-old startup with 12 employees and is growing rapidly based on its unique technology.

The company is developing apps and VR/AR/XR contents in the field of IT, events and design.

It recently has developed ‘VR powered boat steering simulation’ and ‘VR drone forest fire suppression control simulation’.

The former is a simulation for boat driving and safety targeting maximum performance in reality. The 3D is built based on the sea of Changwon and the VR HMD shows the wearer a 360 degree view. The testor can choose A or B course and can practice and operate alone.

CEO Yoonsoo Jang says “There is an increasing number of people wishing to obtain a boat driving license but not many are using it. Also, the lack of technique sometimes can lead to an accident at sea. It is the reason we developed this simulation.”

He added “We can’t drive a boat at bad weather and we can’t practice driving at night. But using this simulation, you can practice anytime and raise your competency.”

After the content development last year, Yellow Box has completed building ‘director mode’, obtained an approval, and is preparing to sell it to license examination centers and related organizations.

VR drone forest fire suppression control simulation

In the case of a fire, we use extinguishing bombs dropped from drones in the sky as a one way. The problem is that the users are experiencing hard time to practice it beforehand.  Thus introduced is VR drone forest fire suppression control simulation. It is consisted of rotary and fixed wing modes and can be used in fire drill anytime.

This simulation can also be used in delivery of goods or dropping grenades so the company is expanding its cope of use at the moment. Both boat driving and drone simulations are being supplied through B2C, B2G and B2B to various centers and stores and factories of interest. CEO Jang says “They are order to made to meet different wants and needs and we are proud to say that we boast our optimization technology where the frame is not separated even if the graphic quality goes maximum.”

Jang adds “The boat and drone simulations we developed are easy to move, install and customizable yet the price is affordable. I’d like to also mention that the reason we, Yellow Box, have grown our business fast is because all design and development are done within the company and I and my team are really proud of this.”
