Yoon attends Buddha’s Birthday event

President Yoon attended a Buddha’s Birthday event on May 27 at Jogyesa Temple. Around 10,000 people including monks, diplomats, high ranks and citizens attended the event. In his congratulatory speech, Yoon said “The spirit of patriotic Buddhism, which took the lead in overcoming difficulties in the country, is deeply permeated throughout our history. Korean Buddhism is fulfilling its role as a successor of national culture that nurtures and blossoms our precious cultural heritage. The government will also do its best to preserve and pass on traditional cultural heritage. Our government’s philosophy of respecting human rights, protecting the weak, and world peace comes from the teachings of the Buddha. The government will also make efforts to take a warmer look out for those in need and to permeate every corner of people’s lives.” In early February of this year, the president became the first sitting president and the first lady to attend the New Year’s Dharma Conference, and he has continued his Buddhist activities by sending presidential congratulations to major temples across the country on the occasion of Buddha’s Birthday.

Yoon celebrates success of launching Nuriho

On Thursday afternoon, May 25, President Yoon celebrated the success of the third launch of the Nuri with his staff at the presidential office in Yongsan, sharing an emotional moment. Immediately after the successful launch of the Nuri, the President connected the Naro Space Center in Goheung via video and received a report from Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho on the results of the third launch of the Nuri. Yoon said “There are only seven countries in the world that can launch rockets and put satellites into orbit with their own launch vehicles and satellites of their own manufacture. There are only three countries in the G7 that have launched their own satellites, the United States, France and Japan, which is a sign that South Korea has truly made a seat among the G7 in the space industry. I’m really thrilled. As space science plays a leading role in all industries, I think the world’s view of Korea’s cutting-edge science and technology will change drastically this time. The last time I visited the United States, we signed an MOU with NASA, and now developed countries are likely to make many proposals to share information and cooperate with Korea in space science and technology. In the second launch last time, we carried an experimental satellite, but this time it is of great significance in that we put the practical satellite into low Earth orbit and put it into operation. We should celebrate today. I would like to show my sincere thanks to the researchers and all those who took part in making this great job happened.” The president briefly returned to his office and back again where he heard that eight satellites had been successfully put into orbit and congratulated his staff on the success of the Nuri launch.
