Gonggantech (CEO Jeong Min-si) said on September 1 that it introduced ‘inclined screw power generation technology’ at ENTECH 2021 held in BEXCO Busan. For the past 10 years, the company has devoted itself to research in the field of offshore power generation, registered a total of 70 patents for offshore power generation, discovered the principle of a new concept inclined screw power generation technology, and made efforts to commercialize tidal power generation. 

Screw hydroelectric power generation is a tidal power generation technology with a screw-type water wheel installed at an angle to the flow direction of the current. It is a technology that integrates the rotating shaft and the structural shaft to reduce the specific gravity and cost of civil structures by more than 50%. It minimizes the fluid resistance received by the aberration, and maximizes power generation efficiency and economic utility. 

An official of the company said “Inclined screw hydroelectric power generation device is a technology that can solve most of the problems of tidal power that have been studied in the past. This technology will be the cornerstone of Korea’s marine energy industry. We are waiting for the contact of interested companies to form a consortium for various fields such as planning, research, investment, manufacturing, installation, and management.” 

CEO Jeong Min-si said “With accelerated climate change and energy depletion, the use of alternative energy has become an essential element for human survival. Unlike other eco-friendly energy, which fluctuates depending on the weather, tidal power generation is attracting attention as a periodic, predictable and stable energy source. However, despite the efforts of countries around the world, commercialization is still at a standstill. The problem is the oversized structure. Existing tidal power aberrations have a structure and power generation principle that receive a large amount of fluid resistance. The structure supporting the water wheel to withstand the high flow rate was very bloated, which caused huge initial construction cost alongside maintenance cost. Efforts have been made to improve the efficiency of the water wheel to commercialize tidal power generation and improve economic efficiency, but the effect has been insignificant. In order to reduce the unit price of electricity, it is necessary to reduce the structure and maintenance costs, which account for the majority of the power generation cost. Inclined screw power generation technology is a technology that greatly improves economic efficiency by minimizing the fluid resistance and civil structure of the water wheel and increased the power generation efficiency of the water wheel after years of research to solve the existing problems. It is an alternative to commercialization of tidal power generation and for this we introduced it at ENTECH 2021 held in BEXCO Busan. We ask for your much expectations and interest.”
