weple suggests a new paradigm to distribution of fresh food

Online to Offline services made it possible that goods are delivered to the door of a consumer who orders it overseas. weple is the first generation fresh food O2O service provider in South Korea and is rising fast as one of the top food e-commerce companies. 

weple CEO Sungmin Yoo grew up by his parents who have devoted 40 years of their lives to seafood distribution. Back in the days, people and businessmen alike had to visit each region to purchase certain foods produced there. 

Yoo wanted to make it simple and convenient and launched his own business Badanaeum in 2006 and settled himself down as the first generation online fresh food seller on Gmarket. 

“I sold quality seafood way too cheaper at first and resulted in 100 million won ($77,011 USD) debt at the first year. Soon, however, consumers started to see how good my products were and how cheap they were. The sales then grew steadily and the business has been going on nicely.” says Yoo.

It has been 17 years since then. With expertise second to none in the field, Yoo gets hold of the freshest seafood possible everyday through a bid and send them in a cool packages to consumers nationwide. Reading the fast changing trade environment with keen eye, he soon introduced a platform Wiple to circulate quality seafood at a good price. For this, he traveled far and wide to meet fishermen and sellers to secure fresh seafood only. The products are gathered to the Fresh Center opened July this year and then sent nationwide on free delivery. 

Running The Sinsun, Badanaeum, Ilryu Nongsakoon online, his seafood toped the number one in terms of units sold at E.bay and 11th market. The sales reached 17 billion won last year and it has been doubled in the first half of this year.

“EATPISODE is my newly launched brand where there are stories of farmers and fishermen from growing and cultivating the products to packaging and distribution. EATPISODE intends to sell not only the fresh foods but also the stories of makers. EATPISODE’s ‘cool-binggo packaging’ will deliver each food as fresh as possible like they were just cultivated or made to consumers. EATPISODE is a combined word for eat and episode.” says Yoo.

“I learned from my father that I should share things with people in order to grow big. I also learned from my mother that I should sell good products in order to keep the clients from leaving. Wiple is the very result of this lessons. I’m targeting 50 billion won sales this year and I’m determined to grow my company as the best e-commerce company for agricultural and marine products.” <PowerKorea>
