Using eco-friendly energy has become a global campaign to stop man-made climate change. New and effective ways of reducing energy consumption and carbon emission are introduced from governments and entrepreneurs in the world. Cities where there are many high buildings are adopting the ‘zero energy building’ to enable energy self-sufficiency. The zero energy building is a building that the total amount of energy used by the building on an annual basis is equal to the amount of renewable energy created on the site.

South Korea introduced the policy in 2017 and from 2020 a building larger than 1,000m² is legally bound to follow the regulation. From 2023 the affected size is reduced to 500m² or more than 30 households in a multi-unit dwelling. From 2050, all buildings must obtain first grade certificate.

Regulations set, builders are the one who move fast. And SKSE (SK Solar Energy) is making a strong presence in the field with its innovative BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) techniques. BIPV can be installed on the surface of a building such as walls, roofs, windows and baconies to generate power without losing it. Recognizing its innovativeness and efficiency, the Korea Energy Agency is covering 70% of the cost when the selected firms install BIPV onto buildings that are not legally bound. Joining the subsidy, Seoul Metropolitan City also covers up to 80% of the cost when installing BIPV.

SKSE boasts unequaled technological prowess when it comes to BIPV. Experts with more than 15 years of experience in the field gathered under the shared vision of establishing the best BIPV company in the nation. As if to prove it, SKSE is growing 20% yearly by taking up numerous new renewable energy projects of government including Carbon Neutrality 2050.

Normally, solar panels are not looking good if not ugly. But the SKSE’s Patterned BIPV Module is not only looking good but also super efficient as it boasts excellent penetration ratio regardless the patterns and colors of the panels. You can choose the patterns and colors according to the building you are applying. Other notable BIPV modules of SKSE are Local T Active Module, Artlite Active BIPV and One Body-Type Media-Facade BIPV.

The One Body-Type Media-Facade BIPV can be used as a solar panel during the day and as a billboard at night by using the power generated and saved in the daytime.

¡ã SKSE / CEO Geunyoung Jo

“Despite our excellent modules, we have to go through an approval every time we install a BIPV. This is because the current regulation has not standardized about sizes yet. So we expect some improvements on that.” says CEO Geunyoung Jo. <PowerKorea>
