The march of edutech backed up by ICT

South Korea has poured a considerable amount of money and support in nurturing talented future experts of ICT (Information Communication Technology) in preparation of coming high tech society driven by cutting edge AI and blockchain technologies. Online courses started to boom from two decades ago led by the EBS (Educational Broadcasting System), the largest education TV station in the nation. In 2015, the trend took on a roller-coaster with the advent of K-MOOC, a South Korean open online services that provides free courses to anyone and anywhere. Chasing up the trend, numerous tech savvy young Koreans jumped on the wagon and introduced similar and more advanced sites and apps including WorkNet and CareerNet. Thus born is the new coined word ‘edutech’. It has shifted part of the traditional classroom education to online.

Regional ICT Innovation Square

The government opened the Regional ICT Innovation Square in March 2021 in order to promote regional economy through fostering talented young future ICT experts. South Chungcheong Province moved fast to build ICT Innovation Square Chungnam and to launch Eco-Friendly Young Farmers training courses to walk alongside the fast rising trend of the time. And Korea Polytechnics Asan has been one of the key players of the region’s AI and ICT training through which it has fostered many talented experts who will lead cutting edge industries not only in the nation but in the world. Korea Polytechnics Asan, in cooperation with the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, organized the Chungnam Golden Light Job Fair last month to match job seekers with the right companies they were looking for. 46 regional small and medium sized companies joined the fair and carried out on-site interviews for around 300 visitors of students and job seekers.
