KOTRA strengthens economic cooperation with South America

KKOTRA held a meeting with the heads of the KOTRA business centers in Central and South America and a meeting with the AAICI (Agencia Argentina de Invesiones y Comercio Internacional. South Korea signed FTA with 8 countries in the region that is fast rising as a global manufacturing hub. The region boasts the largest deposit of lithium, peroniobium and iron ore in the world. Seeing the importance, Biden recently announced APEP (Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity) followed by IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework). KOTRA CEO Jeongyeol Yu flew to Buenos Aires and met Juan Usandivaras, Executive President of the AAICI, June 23 to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries. They agreed on stabilizing export volume and supply, encourage investment, and work together for digital and green economies. Next day on June 24, the KOTRA business center heads in the region gathered together to mark the 60th anniversary of South Korea-South America diplomatic ties. They agreed to build stable supply strategies, low carbon industry and bio/health industry promotion and expanded G2G trade.

KOTRA holds 2022 Global New Trade Forum

KOTRA held the 2022 Global New Trade Forum, June 24 at JW Marriott Seoul. Collaborated with the Korea Association of Trade & Industry Studies and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the event marked 60th birthday of KOTRA and they discussed on economic security, supply chain, digital and carbon neutrality. A former Colombia University professor Wei Shang-jin and a former senior economist for international trade and investment in the White House Chad Bown were invited as special guests and gave insights into changes of global trade environment, small and medium business export support and roles of trade promotion agencies in times of digital trade. A side forum was held in accordance South Korea’s involvement in DEPA (Digital Economy Partnership Agreement). KOTRA is set to lead China Economic Cooperation Plaza in July or August, Chile Green Energy Partnership in September, Global ESG Strategy Forum in October, Thailand Investment Cooperation Forum in November and Vietnam Ecofriendly Industry Technology Seminar in December this year. <PowerKorea>
