Number of people visiting clinics with rhinitis is increasing according to a report. Considerable number of them are children under 10 and the number grew by yearly 2.6% from 2014 and 2018. People tend to doubt whether they have rhinitis when their nose is blocked but experts say that the blocked nose comes from various reasons such as sinus infection and septal deviation.

Septal deviation occurs when the pillar of nose between the nostrils is warped. Patients with septal deviation often complain of blocking, drying, runny nose and sores.

Dr. Shin Ear Nose and Throat is specialized for septal deviation. Entering the clinic, Dr. Shin examines your nose with open possibilities for rhinitis, septal deviation, sinusitis and nosal polyps with help of blood sampling for allergy test or CT and non-endoscopy. When it is diagnosed septal deviation, Dr. Shin moves onto a surgery. As it is a structural problem, surgery is the only way according to Dr. Shin.

The surgery accompanies rhinitis surgery that reduces wrinkles around the nose as it helps breathing in and out freer than before with less likely recurrence. If surgery is not possible due to certain conditions, Dr. Shin applies medicine or spray that can help contract mucous membrane in the nose so that the patient breathes better.

As it is a surgery that correct the nose, it is better than cosmetic surgery because the surgery focuses more on function then followed by the natural shape of the nose while the plastic surgery is vice versa according to Dr. Shin. Like plastic surgery, cartilage of the patient is the best option but silicon, gore-tex, MegaDerm and AlloDerm are also used as alternatives.

Apart from its speciality in blocked nose, Dr. Shin is also providing treatments for stomatitis, tonsillitis, voice disorder, throat disease, otitis externa, hearing imparity and buzzing in the ears. <PowerKorea>
