Saving energy can save energy bills and reduce carbon emission. There are many ways that you can save your energy bill but one good cost effective way is to prevent the warm or cool air from leaking through gaps between window frames and windows. Monthly <PowerKorea> wanted to see how effective Tum Guard is and paid a visit to an old studio apartment that has 9 single rooms in Cheongju City. We toured with the building owner and asked a number of questions. 

Q. The building looks old. When did you install Tum Guard?

A. I did it myself March this year.

Q. You look like a middle aged woman. Wasn’t it difficult to install?

A. Not at all. It took me a day to install Tum Guard in all 9 single rooms of the building by myself.

Q. What difference did it make?

A. Residents complained about the dust and noise coming from the new apartment construction site opposite the road. So I installed Tum Guard to settle down the issues and I received no more complaints about them anymore. I also found that Tum Guard helped block pine pollen from getting into the house in the spring and naturally the window frames became cleaner than before.  

Q. Do you feel Tum Guard actually has reduced your energy bill?

A. Around this time every year, I started running the boiler. But this year after installing Tum Guard I still haven’t done it yet except when I have a shower. I feel the warm air is still lingering till the morning. 

Q. Have you heard from residents about the effect of Tum Guard?

A. They said pretty much same like I said. They don’t complain about the noise and the dust anymore and they seem to have saved energy bills. 

After the touring and the interview with the owner, <PowerKorea> calculated the overall cost of installing Tum Guard based on a 115 square meter house and it turned out to be around 500,000 won ($424) which is very cost effective. <PowerKorea>
