Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced that 70% of Koreans have done the second shot as of October 23, 2pm. The total number is 35,945,342 and if included the first shot the number is 40,760,564 (79.4%). KDCA said that we could not be able to contain the virus wholly due to the proliferation of the delta variant but we could significantly reduce serious illness and mortality through vaccination. “These excellent figures will not be possible without cooperation of the people and I would like to show my sincere gratitude to the people” said Eunkyeong Jeong, the first Commissioner of KDCA. Jeong also encouraged medical staff members who carry on the injection as well as those who are working hard day and night in dealing with the affected patients. While the second shot is rolling aged between 18 and 49, the first shot is also going smoothly for children, youth and the pregnant. Jeong asked those who have not done both first and second shot to participate in order to prevent serious illness and to recover normal day.
