[Road Flooding]

The Ministry of Environment has designated Incheon for Smart Sewarage Control System. The system predicts and monitors amount of rainfall, and controls rain water pump stations and floodgates remotely with cutting edge information technology. Prior to this, Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, introduced nation’s first patented Road Ponding Drain System in June last year. Despite these smart drainage solutions, garbage, mostly the cigarette butts, thrown on the road is another problem that blocks the drain and causes flooding and stings.

Established in 1990 in Busan, Plus Industry turned its metal structure manufacturing to manhole filter development that can prevent roads from flooding and stings. Busan has suffered from flooding and stings whenever rainstorm sweeps the city and most side gutters and drains are covered with rubber mats to prevent this. In reality, the cover is rather worsening the situation as it is the one that block the rainfall to be drained. “So my idea was to develop garbage and dust filters instead of rubber mats, and Manhole Filter is the very result of my years of research” says Gwanhee Yae, CEO of Plus Industry.

Manhole Filter, sewer grate filter, comes in various sizes and shapes to meet various sizes and shapes of sewer grates. If you cannot find the right size and shape, the company makes one for you. The filter sticks garbage and filters dusts for water to be drained and the 5 to 10mm size holes help the water flow without being blocked. All you need to do afterwards is to remove the piled up garbage and dusts on the filter. This way, Yae says, you can prevent both flooding and the stings. The filter can be used semi-permanently thanks to strong durability of stainless material. Plus Industry’s Manhole Filter has been installed in Busan, Suwon, Siheung and Incheon and has been receiving positive reviews from residents.
