[Plastic Waste]
July 2019, Chinese government sent a letter to WTO saying that the country would no longer receive 24 kinds of waste. Being lost where to dump their waste, world leaders turned their eyes to reducing the use of plastic and to using eco-friendly packaging. While plastic takes a great part of polluting the Earth, companies are struggling to develop packaging materials that can alter plastic. Plastic can be disposed by landfill, burning or sea discharge during which massive amount of carbon is produced and released into the air.

[Neuro Pack]
Neuro Pack is a South Korea eco-friendly functional packaging materials developer. It has more than 10 years of R&D knowhow in the field and has been making eco-friendly packaging materials since December 2018. “It all started from a small laboratory. Naturally, all of us are packaging experts who have years of knowledge and technique in the field. The reason we set sail Neuro Pack was that we all wanted to take part in making clean Earth. Currently, we are supplying antibacterial, paper and biomass laminating packaging materials to food companies. We are also working on developing eco-friendly lunch boxes and cosmetics containers” says Uisuk Go, CEO of Neuro Pack.

[Materials]
The materials used for packaging are PLA, paper pulp, gingko and marine algae (starfish and sargassum horneri) byproducts. Starfish is good for increasing physical strength of PLA and the team mixed the calcium carbonate of the starfish into plastic type. The gingko extract is used as coating liquid to add antibacterial function and the company’s coating technique improved gas and moisture permeability. Neuro Pack’s eco-friendly packaging is expected to contribute to the government Carbone Neutrality 2050, Korean Green New Deal, and Nationally Determined Contribution 2030. South Korea is the 14th country that has legalized the Carbone Neutrality 2050.

[Recognition]
Neuro Pack has undertaken around 20 projects for 3 years and developed numerous eco-friendly packaging materials. The company has taken part in various projects run by the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Rural Development Administration. In 2020, the company relocated the office in the Environment Industry Science Park and in 2021, it has been recognized as an affiliated research center from the Korea Industrial Technology Association. Also June this year, Neuro Pack earned the title Korea Green Energy Excellent Enterprise. (PowerKorea)
