(PowerKorea) President Moon paid a visit to LG Energy Solution factory 2 in Ochang on July 8. He said that battery was rising fast as one of the core parts in the future industry and the government would push up the nation’s battery power as number one in the world by 2030. He pointed out if the semiconductor was the brain of processing information, battery is the heart to operate the product and the age was impending where ships, planes and trains move from batter power; around 40 trillion won ($34.9 billion) would be poured in until 2030 from the government, LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, SK Innovation and SMEs and the investment would come with incentives; R&D would get up to 50% tax benefit and facility investment up to 20%. 300 billion won alone would be poured in commercializing next generation battery and battery parks. On the day of the visit, a business agreement was signed and LG, Samsung and SK mad joint investment of 20 billion won and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy 60 billion won to support small and medium sized battery companies. Moon toured the facility on the electric vehicle Danego Van. LG Energy Solution CEO Jeongheon Kim said on the day “We will make 15.1 trillion won investment for the next 10 years and we are expecting to create around 8,000 jobs.” Samsung SDI Deputy CEO Heok Jang said “It’s been 30 years since we used lithium battery and we predict the market will be around 400 trillion won around 2030. We are ambitious to take the lead in development of all-solid-state battery of more than 900Wh/L energy density.” SK Innovation Battery Lab Director Jangwon Lee said “The separation membrane will become thinner, stronger and more durable in high temperature from which we can provider safer batteries.”
