(PowerKorea) Moon met Biden at the White House on May 21. They greeted each other by shaking hands and Biden introduced First Lady Jill Biden to Moon. They met reserved colonel Ralph Puckett who fought for South Korea against the North during the Korean War and attended the honorary medal award ceremony afterwards. After the ceremony, they moved to Roosevelt room and Moon wrote on the guest book ‘peace and prosperous and great Korea-U.S. alliance with President Biden’. They then moved to Oval Office and had a one on one meeting for 37 minutes. Moon said US was the first country he paid a visit since the outbreak of COVID-19 and he was pleased to have a meeting without wearing a mask. Biden said that he felt the same. After the meeting, they had luncheon with Maryland crab cake specifically prepared for Moon who likes seafood. At a small meeting followed after the luncheon, Moon said he and Biden affirmed mutual will for peace on the Korean Peninsula, and Korea-U.S. alliance, and would work together to deal with the North. Biden said he visited South Korea with his granddaughter when he served as a vice president and encouraged her granddaughter to learn Korean’s courage, tenacity and patience. At the extended summit followed, Moon said the vaccination in the US proceeded in speed after Biden’s inauguration and the expectations for economic recovery were high. Moon added he hoped Biden’s Build Back Better and Korean New Deal would create synergy. Biden said he was pleased to meet Moon as the second foreign summit since his inauguration and he and Moon shared special trust and bond, complete denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, and inclusive and reciprocal alliance relationship. After the summit, Moon attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Korean War Vets Memorial in Washington DC and showed his respect to the dead and their families. Moon said in his speech that the names of 43,769 American soldiers would be engraved on the memorial wall and we would remember the courage and the sacrifice of the heroes forever. The wall is built as one of the projects of South Korean Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs that promotes respect to the soldiers and friendship between South Korea and the US.
