President Moon urgently checked on quarantine measures in the capital region on Friday, Aug, 21 at Seoul City Hall due to alarmingly increasing number of daily COVID-19 cases. Briefed by acting mayor Seo Jung-hyup, Moon asked whether the city had secured the list of Gwanghwamun gathering of Sarang Jeil Church and whether the hospital wards were enough. Seo answered a search and confiscation of the church is being considered at the moment and he was working in cooperation with heads of 15 hospitals in Seoul.
Moon emphasized “Seoul is the epicenter of the second wave at the moment. Whether we defend this or not leaves us stability or crisis. So I ask you to do everything you can by making most of your administrative and legal power to prevent the spread and to crackdown any activities against this.”
Moon emphasized “Government authority should be used as minimum as possible but the grave situation like the virus spread at the moment requires us to implement it in full force to protect the people and their health and safety.”
Attended on the day were acting mayor Seo Jung-hyup, Seoul superintendent of education Jo Hee-yeon, National Police Agency chief Kim Chang-ryong, Interior and Safety Minister disaster and safety management division head Kim Gye-jo and KCDC Korea National Institute of Health principal Gwon Jun-wook.
