Summer is here in full swing. Summer lures us to go for beaches and valleys and of course a bowl of ice flakes everybody wants if you are undoubtedly Korean. Nestled off the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula, Jeju Island is the hottest tourist destination in the nation.

Having a bowl of ice flakes with red bean paste on top while healing the body and mind by watching the blue and emerald sea and the wave moves back and forth is just a heavenly dream. To make this dream come true, visit Jeju Sulsimdang located on 504 Seohaean-ro, Jeju City.

Born and grew on the island, Sulsimdang CEO Kim Doo-won went through various jobs and positions before settling down as the owner of the ice flakes cafe. Rather successful a man he was, Kim one day saw his family tired of daily routine and decided to run his own business.

He made most of the island’s advantages which are the sea, the coffee and the Korean rice cakes and breads to start Sulsimdang.

Rising to No.1 ice flakes cafe on the island

“Having worked for NongHyup for 9 years helped me a lot in developing unique menus made of locally grown ingredients. It also helped me how to communicate with staff and partners and how to manage the business professionally” said Kim.

With head store in Jeju City, Kim now is running 6 stores island-wide making it into the hottest ice flakes cafe on the island.

“It is my goal to make the brand Sulsimdang known not only to islanders and people homeland but overseas. In order to do that, differentiation is made in quality, freshness, menus, management and marketing which requires continuous research, R&D and investment.”

Kim currently is working on cooperation with the best roasting company of the island as well as the best eco-friendly tea bag manufacturer as a way to achieve this goal.
