Children’s fingers and hand stuck in the elevator is one of the frequently occurred safety accidents in South Korea. The Ministry of Public Safety and Security introduced Elevator Safety Standard in January 2017 that comes with compulsory hand stuck prevention measures. A statistic of the Korea Consumer Agency shows that the old elevators experience a 10 to 11mm gap between the doors. This phenomenon is reported in the 4 areas at the corners and inside of the elevator doors. The gap is big enough for hands of adult to be stuck.

Easy and cost-effective installation

Sangil Engineering & Construction recently has attracted a great attention with its innovative ‘elevator hand stuck prevention device’. It can be installed without a change or improvement of the elevator for convenience and cost-effectiveness. The device is suit for all purposes from apartment and commercial buildings to schools regardless the year of made. It is consisted of one set for four parts at the first floor and for two parts from the second floor upwards. Sangsu Lee, CEO of Sangil Engineering & Construction, pointed out that the installation in the first floor is most important as it can prevent 90% of the hand stuck accidents.

92.3% accidents occur by children under 6

A statistic shows that 92.3% hand stuck accidents on elevator occur by children under 6. The accident can lead to bruise, scratch and sprain. From February 2017, the government made it compulsory to install elevators with less than 4mm door gap or install with automatic safety devices for newly built buildings. But for the buildings built before February 2017 should install necessary devices or improvement work should be made. The innovative ‘elevator hand stuck prevention device’ introduced by Sangil Engineering & Construction is made with plastic, aluminum, stainless and electro-galvanizing that comes with customized color for each different elevator. It has patient No. 10-1817345.
