Hongdae is famous for fancy cafes, bars, restaurants, hipsters and above all buskers. Not surprisingly, the area has been the famous for indie musicians and underground music clubs.
250 member musicians
The Seoul Street Artists Cooperative gathers 250 member musicians and organizes an open audition every year around Hongdae, Sinchon and Cheonggyecheon to find talented musicians under the support of Mapo District and a MOU with the Seoul Facilities Corporation.
Creating new cultural contents
Nagyeom Choi, the chief director of the cooperative, is the lead vocal of the indie band NaGyeom and a cultural planner who has more than 10 years of experience in both fields. She established the cooperative in 2013 and is the one who first organized the Hongdae Busker Buddy Festa with which she has organized other street performances alongside for more than 1,000 times in Seoul.
Hyosook Kim, the director of the cooperative, on the other hand, has served as director of the Korea Ocarina and Pan Flute Association and CEO of The Stick That Goes Picnic (charity organization) and of Picnic (cultural complex) through which she has given free performances for child patients and cancer patients.
Both Choi and Kim are determined to gather their strength and imaginations to promote new cultural contents through the Seoul Street Artists Cooperative.
